Guest, your error is the

[./override/_NEB.cre] loaded, 1124 bytes

ERROR: [_NEB.cre] -> [override] Patching Failed (COPY) (Invalid_argument("String.sub"))

Stopping installation because of error.

I believe this happens on Tutu v4 based on SoA when one of the older programs cleans out _NEB.cre. I will take a look through the forums and see if I can remember where this came up, but perhaps Jastey will remember faster (as she has tested using Tutu v4).

Take a look in your override folder and make sure _NEB.cre exists. If it does, please let us know, so we can look for a solution.

Edit/ it was Jastey herself who ran into the problem, but other folks didn't on a German Tutu v4 install.

Can you please post your WeiDU.LOG file here, so we can try to detect what mod is changing _NEB and corrupting the file? (Jastey reported _NEB present, but the .cre had problems...)

I believe this happens on Tutu v4 based on SoA

I use EasyTuTu_ToB

I had that error on my German Tutu v4, with ToB, with TotSC install.

All I can suspect is Tutufix, or it's some mean error that was transferred from the original BG1.

What are those _neb.cre changes in BG1NPC there for anyway? Any specific reason?

[cmorgan edit> SOLVED

The answer to this was that some mods and/or versions of Tutu ended up with some .cres occasionally beingg set as using EFFv1, and WeiDU didn't like patching EFFv1 with stuff when it expected to find EFFv2. Using WeiDU v202 or higher eliminates this problem, as the bigg has expanded WeiDU's parser to fix this.

Legacy materials, in the interests of historical referent:

Well, the code is Miloch's corrections for animation/level/portrait, eventaully to be placed in BG Fixpack, supposedly. It is not critical; commenting it out is an easy "fix" that touches absolutely no other project code.

The problem is, why is it happening on some installs and not others? and the answer looks like "because TutuFix messes with _NEB in such a way as to corrupt the file"?? (And why won't this happen on my EasyTutu_ToB install).

OK, going to look for the problem.

Hey, while I do that, don't let that stop you from playing, Garza - you will be missing out on a grand total of one thing - Neb will look like a male Dwarf instead of a Gnome, just as he has done from the earliest days of Tutu ;) No other content is touched. To avoid the whole problem,

1. make sure NBG1NPV v14 is completely uninstalled.

2. using a text editor (*NOT* Microsoft Word - notepad will do fine) find and open th efile "bg1npc.tp2"

3. go to the part in the upper third of the document and look for the part (lines 588 through 611) that says this:

COPY_EXISTING ~%tutu_var%NEB.cre~ ~override~ //Neb (in SW Baldur's Gate FF HQ L1)

4. save the file, and then reinstall BG1NPC v14.

That should take care of the immediate problem and allow you to play on while I go figure out what the problem is (CamDawg and the rest of the team have gone over this code and i tested it myself, so the string_sub must be having troubles with a .cre that is not ok, through other patching outside of BG1NPC - I hope ;) )

Wow, such a loss ... Not sure i can live with it ;)

Thank you! Now it works fine.

And I am happy this thing was confirmed by someone else. My confidence in my Tutu install rises again.

cmorgan: Either Tutu core fixes (that's all I had installed) or as a wild guess some problem with some BG1 release, although mine was the German one, of course (5 CDs "Die Saga").

Well, the code is Miloch's corrections for animation/level/portrait, eventaully to be placed in BG Fixpack, supposedly.
Either that, or tweak pack. I don't think it really belongs into BG1NPC, I have to admit. (And then they would have the install error messages. ;) )

What I seem to be seeing here is that Tutufix's "Walking Speeds" component causes the issue when used in conjunction with certain mods.

If it was just Tiax and Neb, I could say that is was most likely my "Gnomes" content. But it's also happening in the latest SCS with certain CREs we don't touch here (Nimbul, Daese, Denak), e.g.:

ERROR: [_daese.cre] -> [override] Patching Failed (COPY) (Invalid_argument("String.sub"))
Stopping installation because of error.

So the easy solution is don't use Walking Speeds, as indicated in the Tutu mod list/compatibility thread. It causes other issues too.

But I'm still wondering...

a) WTF is an (Invalid_argument("String.sub")? and

b) Why would Tutufix (assuming it's Tutufix) be changing CREs to generate this error when other mods try to patch them?

I don't suppose this would be something one of the latest WeiDUs introduced?

[bTW, cmorgan, you can back out my "Gnomes" content from BG1NPC since that seems to be the way the wind is blowing, and anyway, I was working on a v2 to make it into a "real" mod... if I can remember where I left off. You can keep the portraits as BG1NPC already has such a component.]

Oh, no way, man - it is in there - there is another thread around here where we identified it as a Tutufix Walking Speeds problem :)

It will be silently skipped with the BUT_ONLY if it is set forst by a new mod. Wind isn't blowing against it at all (and I would lean back into it if it were). Part of the Core.

On the string_sub, I have reported to the bigg, as I suspect DavidW has, and he is investigating. I looked up the definition, and supposedly it means weidu is looking for a specific set of possible strings to evaluate in the .cre offsets, but isn't finding them, which may point to problems with the older Walking Speeds patching code. For more detail, you would have to ask the bigg. I have not yet investigated whether this happens with SCS/SCSII after installing BG2 Tweaks Walking Speeds or not, but will eventually get that done, too.

Now this is a cute bug! While choosing new second level spells for my sorcerer during my last EasyTUTU-run, I noticed that there were 23 choosable spells instead of the usual 22. The new spell (featuring the Luck-icon) had the intriguing name "Imoen's Lockpicking ability has". I started a new game, cheated my experience to 161.000, picked this spell and cast it on a tutor in Candlekeep which resulted in the following message "Casts Imoen's Lockpicking ability has improved thanks to Safana's ingenious tip. : Tutor". I can't say for sure if this is content of BG1NPC or BG1UB, but BG1NPC seems more likely to me.

It should do:

ALWAYS
 ACTION_IF FILE_EXISTS_IN_GAME ~FW0100.are~ THEN BEGIN
INCLUDE ~BG1NPC\lib\g3_tutu_cpmvars.tpa~
 ...
 END
END

Which in turn contains

  OUTER_SPRINT "tutu_scriptw" "_"

Anyway, it's picking up the _ before the CRE name, so it must be getting the variables. Didn't someone identify this as a bug somewhere else though?

That's interesting!

it is a BG1 NPC spell applied via dialogue in a random banter between Safana and Imoen. Not sure what is turning it into a player-selectable spell, though; I have not seen it - will try to figure out how to make it not appear as a sorceror choice :)

@Nythrun & Miloch - If you do come up with something, please let me know. My HDs are slowly going the way of all things, so I am backing everything up onto a secondary standalone HD, but I don't know when I will get back to bugtesting... it may be awhile.

In readme of the latest version:

Tiax will start in his regular location or Beregost, second floor Travenhurst Manor.
He is in Feldpost Inn now. Just a minor typo, but it took me more than one hour of searching. :)
