Hello ! Please forgive me for my bad english, I'm french. ;)

 

I play Baldur's Gate Trilogy with some mods (BG1 NPC project, BG1 Unfinish Business, BGT Tweak, Ashes of Ambers, BG2 Fixpack, Ascension)

 

I have a problem with a dialogue between Minsc and the PC : Minsc want to talk but the dialogue don't work, so he can't move and my character stop every 2 seconds.

 

I have try to install the initiative dialogue element from NPC project to initiate the dialogue, and it had work : when I have load my save, Minsc have talk to my character. But the dialogue is totally messed up and it loop every second !

 

Minsc said that Boo is sleeping so we can ask questions to him. I can choose between 9 options, but Minsc's answer is not the good sentence, it's a different one every time. Sometime if I clic 5 ou 6 times on the same option Minsc say the good answer and in the next loop I have only 5 options.

 

I have save the game and uninstall the initiative dialogue element. When I load the save the dialogue don't opend but Minsc said the same sentence in loop (sound, no text) and he always can't move.

 

I don't know if it's a new bug and how to fix it ? Please can someone help me ? :cry:

I think I recognize this - please PM me for a new version of BG1 NPC with this fixed. I will try to look through back threads as soon as I can to isolate the problem and try some sort of workaround, but I have in the log "fixed", so it is probably better to just get the whole new version!

Edit: To be clear, this is not a problem on Tutu or BGT vanilla installs, as confirmed by playtesters on the new internal. I believe it is a problem with a BP/Trilogy mod; I believe I have solved the problem, but I can't be sure - BP mods have some challenges. The newest internal sets up dialogue differently, which I think was the only solution needed.

Got your PM - I am still having troubles figuring out what the problem is, I am afraid. I have to ask berelinde to step in here, I think, if she could - I am not seeming to get my head around what mod would be adding this, and why it is looping. I am *pretty* sure it isn't us, but can't be absolutely sure without some diagnosiis, which given the situation I can't do -

 

do we have a French speaker comfortable with BGt installs here? (Perhaps SpellholdStudios...) We also may need to get Chevalier and Azazzello involved.

 

As far as I can tell, something in the BP/BGT install is causing a dialogue loop with Minsc saying something about Boo being asleep, so we can talk now, but this is on a French dialog.tlk.

The fist part of the dialogue which doesn't work is string 114163 in dialog.tlk and dialogF.tlk (with Near Infinity), but I don't know to find the other part of it (the differents answers options).

 

The dialogue begin by this :

Minsc : *Boo is snoozing in Minsc's pouch. If you want to talk to the huge Rashemi without the hamster's interference - the moment is now!*

and I have 9 anwers in choice.

You see, if Minsc is saying that all on his own, without you force-talking him, there is a problem in his script, and a variable mismatch. There were many of them in the last public version, and they have been fixed in the new privately available version.

 

What were you doing when this dialogue cycle began? Were you in a specific part of the map, or did it happen anywhere?

Minsc try to talk with my character but the dialogue doesn't work, so they just look at each other without doing anything, and they can't walk because they stop every second.

So I have try to installed the initiating dialogue element, that I hadn't installed before because I have read it doens't work with BGT. When I load my save with this, Minsc's dialogue work... but just the begining, because after the dialogue is mess up, and it loop. If I save, uninstalled the initiating dialogue and reload, Minsc say the same thing every second, but it's no dialogue, just sound.

I use a private version that someone in the french forum La Couronne de Cuivre has sent to me. It's version 12 beta 4.

 

What were you doing when this dialogue cycle began? Were you in a specific part of the map, or did it happen anywhere?

 

I'm next to the gnoll stronghold (BG1), but I have make test with an old save, and if think the dialogue isn't specific to a place, but happened after a period of time.

That helps. I think I know what it is: Minsc has a timer that kicks in if the party takes too long to rescue Dynaheir.

 

cm, can you check the timers on that? They might need to be lengthened or otherwise tweaked.

What do you mean by 'kick in' ? This timer can makes problem in Minsc's dialogues ? In the dialogue which loop, he doesn't talk about Dynaheir. But I think I remember that sometimes when I ask him question and get mess up answer, he tell something about gnoll and Dynaheir. But I'm not sure, I have to check this.

No, I don't think you have to check it. The reason you see this conversation is that Minsc has a script that tells him when it is time to begin a conversation.

 

This script is telling him to start talking to the PC, but there is not a dialogue that is valid for that particular situation, so his player-initiated dialogue menu comes up.

 

We had the same trouble with Coran and with Kivan.

 

Give us a little while to look at it. Hopefully, the information you provided will help cmorgan and I locate the problem that is affecting your installation.

It might also be pulling the old Beta3 out of the install and replacing it with the new internal, but using the old savegame...

 

but I will check the Minsc/Gnoll set of speeches.
