Anomen - profs in spear?

Lemernis

Recommended Posts

It's been years since I used Anomen but I see that he has the following profs:

mace **

sling **

spear **

sword and shield style **

But because he's a cleric he can't use a spear!

I could alter these with SK of course. What would you consider a reasonable reallocation of weapons profs for Anomen?

It must be due to a mod I have installed:

BG2 Fixpack

One Pixel Productions

Unfinished Business

Quest Pack

PnP Celestials

Ascension

BG2 Tweak Pack

SCS II

I doubt SCS II (beta) would be changing any of the joinable NPCs. Has anyone ever heard of a mod doing this? I did install BG2 Tweaks 'ToB-Style NPCs' component. Anomen joined the party as soon as the party exited Irenicus' dungeon, with the PC at level 8.

"ToB-Style NPCs

This component will alter all joinable NPCs to join in the same fashion as Throne of Bhaal, where NPCs immediately level-up upon joining, with a caveat: all creature files are moved down to their lowest experience version, so if you pick up an NPC early enough they will not level upon joining. However, later in the game they will, allowing you to select weapon proficiencies, thieving points, and other goodies from the level-up process."

According to Game Banshee, Anomen's profs should be

war hammer *

mace **

sling **

sword and shield style *

Hehe, a peek at SCS component list!

Anyway, Fixpack adds spear proficiencies, but as long as Anomen's a cleric, he can't use a spear. If you install Ashes of Embers from PPG, I think that can be remedied, however - he'll be able to use a spear then. Try it.

Hehe, a peek at SCS component list!

Lol! Oops, didn't think of that. Hope David is okay with me posting that. ;)

Actually, he might be pretty formidable with Ixil's Spike +6.

I know that there is a mod that includes a component to grant clerics at least one prof in any weapon style. I recalled it being in the BG2 Tweak Pack, but I'm not finding it listed in the readme.

I'm not sure if Ashes will be compatible with the SCS II beta playtest.

Assuming I have to correct this with Shadowkeeper, I might as well benefit Anomen with a creative change in profs. He doesn't really need war hammer. The PC will be dual wielding the best hammers, and eventually will be a dual wielding grandmaster in both a) hammer, and b) either flail or mace. Anomen's a meleer. In my game he won't be using a sling. Sword and Shield Style I guess I could keep, given that he comes with his own nifty family shield. But honestly, he doesn't really need those two profs either.

Do I have this figured right?:Anomen would have 6 profs as a Fighter 7 to reallocate, and then an additional 2 as cleric, following the restrictions for cleric profs.

If you were going to redo his profs what would you all select for him?

Link to comment

I don't see why SCSII wouldn't be compatible with AoE, but with AoE installed, the BG2 Fixpack requires a bit of tweaking to Anomen's CRE before entering the Copper Coronet, or you'll get a CTD. Anomen comes equipped with sling and mace. Installing AoE changes them to crossbow and longsword. Not a problem, ordinarily, but the fixpack moves the sling to the quick-weapon slot, which is a big problem if a two-handed weapon is equipped while a shield is equipped. Workaround: edit anomen6.cre, anomen7.cre, anomen8.cre, anomen9.cre, anomen10.cre (skip the files that don't actually exist, by the way, since I don't remember the specifics). You'll want to either move the crossbow to inventory with NI or just delete it with Shadowkeeper.

Hehe! You never know how some people feel about their work. ;)

Okay, I'm going to redo his profs w/ Shadowkeeper. The two clearly wasted profs in spear don't sit right with me. Which opens the door to tinker more broadly with his profs.

I would think Anomen's family shield would be important to him, so I will leave two profs in Sword and Shield Style. Mace is fine. Sling and Spear get reallocated.

Flail ***

Sword and Shield Style **

I just tried a test character, and I see now what folks are saying about Anomen being shorted two profs. A Fighter 7 gets 6 stars to spend as a Fighter and a Cleric 8 has four stars to spend. But try as I may to set him up with at least

Mace ***

Flail ***

Sword and Shield Style **

when he gets his Fighter skills back, the game engine arbitrarily reassigns one prof each from from mace *** and flail *** to elsewhere--and it's stuff that I didn't select or want.

If you were making a dualed Fighter7/Cleric 8 is there a way to legitimately arrive at

Mace ***

Flail ***

Sword and Shield Style **

Two Weapon Style **

?

***

Edit: Okay, I think I worked it out. By starting with Fighter 7

mace **

swords and shield style **

two weapon style **

I managed to end up with

flail ***

mace **

swords and shield style **

two weapon style **

which isn't bad--as he progresses I can have Anomen dual wielding maces and flails.

Blast! The game is crashing all the time with his profs edited.

I guess I'll have to leave him as if, I just wish I could have him use a spear at least. Does anyone know which mod it is that includes a component that allows clerics one prof in any type of weapon?

Is it Level One NPCs?

Link to comment

The most surefire way to crash your game is to allow too few proficiencies. When you are editing his cre, you are probably taking away, but not giving back. For every pip you take, you have to give one back. Note that I don't think that you are prevented from actually giving him more than he is entitled to.

Or you could just cave in, use Ashes of Embers, and make sure to delete his crossbow from his inventory before walking into the Copper Coronet, then he could go ahead and use spears, swords, or anything else you like.

Okay, I installed AoE (just the following three components: Sensible weapon restrictions for mods, Unique weapons (bolas and katars), and Throwing Spears). And I edited Anomen's profs as follows

flail ***

spear ***

two handed weapon style **

sword and shield style **

and it all appears stable now. At least so far so good. I had to raise Anomen's Dex from 10 to 12 so that he could use a flail (not like 12 Dex makes him an unstoppable dynamo or anything). After hearing Anomen tell Yoshi his tale of killing a wyvern with a spear, I decided he really should have profs in that weapon.

Link to comment

Btw, by installing the 'sensible weapons restrictions' component I inadvertantly created a bit of a headache. That component imposes dex requirements for the weapons types, for example. As such, Anomen cannot use a flail, as mentioned (which imo is a good choice for him to use). Bioware made a mess of his profs, and he is one I think that it's legitimate to go in and fix to with profs in flail via SK. Spear does make sense according to his dialogues, there are some decent spears in the game, and he can be made to wield that weapon effectively. But the profs in sling are really wasted--Anomen's primarily a meleer.

Also, with that AoE component installed I founf that Keldorn's profs in crossbow become unusable because his Dex is too low. So rather than alter his Dex, I SKed his profs to

two-handed sword **

long sword **

two weapon style **

Anyway, I was a little surprised that AoE doesn't make some adjustments for the NPCs according to the restrictions it implements, i.e., offer a chance to alter their profs.

IIRC, Level One NPC does allow for this kind of customization (reassignment of weapons profs).
