SOA:TOB Panels Messed up

I'm running Vista Ultimate 32bit on an HP NC8430 (ATi Mobility Radeon x1600). After installing SOA:TOB and the latest patch 26498, I was able to successfully apply this widescreen mod. After starting the game, however, my panels are screwed up; the left button panel is correctly rendered, but the bottom and right ones are not there. When I move my pointer to those areas, it's the old DOOM clipping effect, and there's nothing to click on.

Has this happened to anyone else? I would really love to play widescreen, but this panel madness totally stops me. Thanks for any input!

That's a new one. I guess that's the (n+1)th case of "Vista Sucks". What resoluton are you using?

Actually, I -don't- think Vista sucks. I rather like it - of course, that's with all the superfluous security additions turned off.

Anyway, the panel-funniness happens with any widescreen resolution I pick. Most notably with high resolutions, such as 1440x900 and 1680x1050. Oh, and I also get warnings when actually running the setup-widescreen.exe. I guess it would help to have those. Lemme see if I can't get 'em.... Here you go:

Installing [Widescreen mod]

Enter your X coordinate. It should be a number, >= 800.

Enter your Y coordinate. It should be a number, >= 600.

Do you want fullscreen? (doesn't work for non-standard resolutions)

1 = yes

0 = no

1440x900, fullscreen.

Are you sure? Y/N

1) you're using an older version of the mod.

2) It looks like you tried to install the mod twice, or you used the non-weidu mod, followed by the weidu one, or something like that. Try to uninstall the game, fully delete the game directory, and then reinstall from scratch.

3) Vista sucks = I believed it was a broken DirectX compatibility, rather than broken bgmain.exe.

The Bigg? You da man! This morning (sorry to take so long to reply), I removed BGII:SOA/TOB completely, and started fresh. I followed your suggested install procedure, and it works now. My panels are NOT messed up now, and I am successfully running the game in widescreen mode, at 1440x900 resolution! YAY!

The interesting thing is that ever since I got a widescreen notebook, I've never seen this game in the proper aspect ratio; the last time I saw it looking correct was back in college, 6 years ago. ... Wow, has it been that long..? Er.. anyway, I'm super happy that everything's working now. Thanks a ton, TB. You've totally made my year!
