Question about Duelist AC mechanics

I'm wondering how the Duelist's AC bonus is supposed to work, since I ran into an odd situation.

I created a new Duelist character in BG2, who starts at level 7. It had 18 Dex (-4 AC) and presumably would only get another -1 AC bonus for its first five levels, giving it a total of 5 AC when naked. However, the character actually started out with 4 AC when I checked after the opening cutscene. Where did the other -1 AC come from?

Also, when I tried exporting the character and opening the character file with ShadowKeeper, it says that its base AC is 10. Where are the AC bonuses from levels supposed to be indicated?

Probably in Effective AC, which is an offset at 0x48, whereas Base AC is at 0x46. So you're probably better off looking at the character with NearInfinity.
