Trouble shooting mods

Hi, a couple of weeks ago my hard drive failed, thankfully i had a backup copy of my override and custom npcs folders.

So I reinstalled BG2 and just copied all the folders into there.

I also created some new custom items for my character before playing. These were created by opening existing items (IEEP), changing stuff, including their names and descriptions and then saving them with a different file name.

However when i played all my custom npcs were corrupted, for instance the guy who meets you in Irenicus' dungeon (part of dungeon begone) and teleports you out. His name was that of my new boots description. So every time I attacked him it would print a huge item description into my combat log. Also his dialogue options were all item descriptions! :)

Also many of the item descriptions for armours, weapons etc are simply blank, some of these may have been edited previously due to a tweak pack or something I cant remember.

Anyway, does any one know why this has happened and how could I avoid it happening in the future?

For every new item I create do I have to create a new dialogue file, or can I just open existing items and change their descriptions saving under a different file name, will this overite existing dialogue files? Sorry im not very knowledgable of this stuff :)

Thanks

Thats one problem right there. Copying those files/folders over. Anything in those files will have corrupted text because your new installation does not have the text assigned to them.

I have trouble shooting mods, too.

Why, you get a mod in your sights, and they move so fast, before you can hit the trigger on your laser cannon, they've left the reticle, and you have to re-acquire.

It would really help to have mods that moved slower, so that you could shoot them easier.

er - yeah. about the error you saw. Weidu will modify the Dialog.tlk in the directory it runs in and will use that dialog.tlk for it's string IDs; the game, however, looks at the dialog.tlk in the HD0 directory.

This can lead to mismatches.

I'd suggest just uninstalling all Weidu stuff, then reinsalling it, after making sure your baldur.ini is correct.

Try Gavin for BG2. It's moving so slow, you could lock your sights, order a pizza, then deploy.

It isn't my fault, really. It's just that other projects are more pressing right now, like finally getting done with BG1 NPC.

Seriously, though, I have nothing to contribute to the above discussion but more humor, such as it is.

I don't know anybody that hasn't hosed his/her installation at one point or another.

I knew someone will pick it up, too! :)

But they must be scared of me: other than restoring a clean installation when I want a new setup of mods lined and waiting, I don't have to reinstall.
