Nemo
Since I visited Spellhold I have a quite annoying bug: Every two seconds the game freezes for a very short time, i.e. my characters stop walking as they were freezed for a 1/10 second. Does anyone has an idea how I can fix this? Miloch
I don't know if any of that actually answers the question, but basically it comes down to a) Get a computer with a better processor b) Install fewer mods, particularly those that put in loads of muddled scripting, most particularly those that glob up global scripting (baldur.bcs) I'm not familiar with all your mods, but they most don't appear to fall into the latter category, so you might try option a if you can. berelinde
Good call, Miloch. Post was probably helpful. Nemo: I'm somewhat familiar with a couple of the mods on that install, though, and I can tell you that the likely culprit is an override folder that exceeds the size of the computer memory. With several fully-voiced NPC mods on there, including Saerileth and Tsujatha, which don't delete the ogg files after installation, that override has got to be over the 512MB RAM many computers have. Also, Saerileth does add to baldur.bcs, so there might be some cumulative effect. It's up to you, the player, which approach you want to take. You're probably never going to run with a party composed of all the mod NPCs on your install, so I'd say your best bet would be to go back to a clean install, whether you use the "restoring a clean install" method or the simple uninstall/delete/reinstall method, then install *only* the mods you plan to play in this particular run. If you're curious, the usual culprit for a bloated override folder is the audio component many NPC mods have. With 200+ WAV files per mod at a couple hundred kB a pop, it doesn't take long to max out your override folder. Link to comment

I certainly wouldn't want to run with less than 1GB. Mentioning that some mods don't delete the .ogg files is important, I think, as they do needlessly take up space (and add to the item count) in the override folder. It's a good idea to delete them all, as the game won't use them, but will use the .wav files instead. I go further in slimming down the override folder by moving all .wav files into the sounds folder. This has the disadvantage of making every sound file appear in the list where you select a soundset for a character, but I don't mind that much. I know this has been brought up before, but why is Ascension installed before BG2 Fixpack? It says it can be installed on top of other mods with no problem. I just reinstalled everything (restored from back-ups, then installed all mods one by one after making sure they were updated to WeiDU 204), and added Ascension to my list for the first time. I installed it third to last, after BG2 Tweaks and before Refinements, finishing with Virtue. Now I have a problem where Saerileth's name has been replaced by a string of text that looks like it's from the Kivan mod. I'm not sure why this has happened, and my first instinct is to simply reinstall Saerileth, but if Ascension MUST go first (meaning before BG2 Fixpack), then I'll have to start all over again. Good luck, Eric Link to comment
Nemo
Thank you for your answers, Miloch, berelinde and eric07. I am using Mac OS X 10.4.11, 1.25 GHz PPC G4, 768 MB DDR SDRAM. This should be fast enough? I did as you suggested, eric, and deleted the .ogg files. However, the bug is not resolved. If I use a savegame before Spellhold, then the game works properly. Maybe it would be the easiest solution if I reinstall the game without Kelsey. Link to comment

Indeed, your CPU is beyond adequate Looks like plenty of RAM, too, although more is always better, so you might want to budget for at least 1GB of RAM in total. I don't think Kelsey is the source of the problem. Your system and your BGII appear to be somewhat similar to mine, and I rarely ever encounter any st-st-stuttering when the characters move about on-screen. I have discovered that the party moves faster and more consistently if I start them moving, then switch to map view, and switch back when they're where I want them to end up. However, we need to find a better solution for you. What are your settings in BGConfig? Something there might be to blame. Make sure 3D Acceleration is NOT enabled. We'll see if anything else needs to be adjusted, and get your game to behave as it should Cheers, Eric Link to comment

ericp07
All the settings in my BGConfig are on 'Maximum Mac G4 733'. OK, that's fine. In the Gameplay section, you can increase the Cache Size if you like (I entered 4096 here). In the Graphics section, you can select 32-bit if you like, and again, make sure 3D acceleration is not selected. Everything else in BGConfig can stay the way it is, but I disable the critical hit screen shake and the duplicate floating text options, just because I don't like those features. You might also want to go to SHS, download the BiG World 5.1 .pdf file, and do a new round of installs, following the instructions there. I can help you with this if you like. I did this last night, and started a test game this morning. Everything starts out as it should, so I'll watch carefully as I get the party out of Irenicus' dungeon and beyond. Good luck! Nemo
Strange news: When I kick Saerileth out of my party, the freezing stops. ^^ Unfortunately, I really like her and would be glad if she could stay in the party. On the other hand, I do not want to install everything again. Link to comment
