Jaheira is complaining forever

Hi guys,

 

I've hit an issue with Jaheira on my party, and here being so many subforums and the issue being pretty general, I decided to post it here. The thing is that sometimes, Jaheira decides to complain about hurrying up, and never stops. It's the following conversation (pretty loose english-spanish translation):

Jaheira: We must hurry up and start moving (or something of the like)

Charname: 3 options saying 1) We are already on the way, 2) Shut up or 3) Yes Ma'am

Jaheira: Some thing about revenging Khalid

Charname: Another 3 options on forgetting the dead, shutting up again or revenging the dead later on

 

And whenever the last sentence ends, I get three or four seconds (maybe even a round) until Jaheira decides to bitch about hurrying up again. Not nice. I've reinstalled again (a pain, since I had to reinstall BG1 too and I'm using BGT), and the bitching continues. It seems it's triggered by "low" hitpoints (estimated in 40 out of 90). Healing or kicking her out of the party seems to work, although it bothers me none the less. Anybody knows what may be causing this?

I've opened my savegame with shadowkeeper and some Jaheira variables seem to be over the roof. Note, however, that Jaheira's quest seems to go along OK, since I had my first meeting with Dermin a few hours ago. Also note that I'm female and thus not romancing Jaheira. Mazzy and Minsc (I'll kick him soon) don't complain when being near death.

Sorry for replying to myself, but I've narrowed the bitching to when Jaheira's current HP are lower or equal than 0.5*maximumHP. I haven't been able to discard the "equal", since Jaheira currently has odd HPs.

 

Furthermore, the translation of the *exact* first sentence is:

I won't tolerate this waste of time. Let's go on! We have much to do!

At a very general guess, it might be strings being screwed up in the game, caused by having a the game running, or having an editor open while installing. The conditions that normally call for a "wounded" banter are true, but because it's bringing up the wrong dialogue, it's never getting marked as complete, so it keeps recurring. At least that's what it looks like to me, I can't check at the moment, due to not having BG2 currently installed.

 

 

You may wish to see if anyone else more knowledgeable than I has further advice, but I think you might be able to fix things by uninstalling all your mods, and reinstalling them in the same order. That may not do the job though and a full game reinstall may be needed. Keep the savegames separate though, because as long as the same mods are added, you should be able to use them again.

Does this problem persist after you save and reload?

Are other characters affected, or just Jaheira?

Are you in the BG1 portion of the game, or the BG2 portion of the game?

Big Rob, I've already reinstalled the game. I've tried with and without the improved translation from ClanDLAN, and both English/Spanish SoA (most of the spanish voices are terrible). However, I may have changed mid-game from BGT 1.05a to 1.05b.

 

Berelinde's questions:

What were you doing when this problem started?

I don't remember what I was doing the very first time. I think I was fighting Mae'var, but I'm not 100% sure. The next time I saw this was when looting the Shade Lord.

 

What makes it worse? What makes it better? Does anything you do have any bearing on this at all? Is Khalid actually in your party?

It happens with 100% regularity if Jaheira has HP <= 0.5 max HP, situation is non-combat and the party is on sight. I'll have to see whether this happens only with <CHARNAME> on sight, though. Whenever this happens, I put her a ring of regeneration and send her to another area, although I discovered two days ago that just being out of sight of the party is enough.

 

Khalid used to be a member of my party right up to Sarevok's final battle.

 

Is her movement affected? In other words, does she walk normally, or does she take a few steps and then stop?

She walks normally, but the dialogue triggers every 4-5 seconds (less than a round). This makes healing with the ring of regeneration a pain.

 

Recurrence: Does this problem persist after you save and reload?

It's not inmediate, but reloading doesn't help it. I'll have to see whether this only happens after going over and then under 0.5maxHP (i.e. triggering the check again).

 

Are other characters affected, or just Jaheira?

Only her.

 

Are you in the BG1 portion of the game, or the BG2 portion of the game?

It's the BG2 portion, Chapter 3. I'll try a new BG2 game, although this may not happen before seeing Khalid. I'll Ctrl+Y my way out of Chez Jon.

Heh, this is "Unleashed Jaheira". I'm sure this infinite loop is an easter egg that shows Jaheira as really designed by David Gaider. This, together with an e-Demogorgon that mails all your contacts every time he whips your party from the face of the Forgotten Realms.

 

By the way, I started a new BG2 game (not Ctrl+y-ing, but I imported my Cleric Ranger from Final-TOB and cheated the items) and got to Chapter 2. I managed to get Jaheira very badly injured but she didin't complain at all. Well, a dialogue triaged, but the behaviour was really normal. I guess I have some wrong variable in my savegame.

I've noticed that, after finishing the dialogue, she stops. Jaheira might have stopped right befire the dialogue, since che can only take four steps before talking (again).

Since your new game is going all right, I'm inclined to think that it was just a glitch with your old saved game. That can happen, especially if you've reinstalled anything.

 

Thanks for your feedback. I'll go ahead with my mildly corrupted savegame, hoping that no quest-breaking strings will be affected. It's my first sorceress, and having been through all of BG1 with scs, I'd hate to abandon her.

Hi all,

 

I might have a little idea of the cause of that problem but no solution.

 

I've just reinstalled normal BG2 with TB ; then started a totally normal game (not imported from BG1, not any cheating on my savegame)

 

Everything was normal (Jaheira just boring as usual)

now i'm in chapter 3 since a few days, and i've decided to install the patch BGII-ThroneofBhaal_Patch_26498 supposed to solve the issue (PNJ seems busy and can't talk to you)

 

And just today i got same problem as Miguel.

Get a ring of regeneration. Now. Do it. Via the console, Ribald, the asylum or whatever. But it's the easiest way to shut her up short of Ctrl+healing her (was it Ctrl+R or Ctrl+H?). And remember that Jaheira will only complain if another party member is within her sight.

 

However, I was fully patched and it was probably an interaction between starting a whole game with Jaheira using BGT 1.05a and then switching to BGT 1.05b.
