Guest Tancred
Well, I did create a less powerful version of Greater Malison, with an area of effect centred on the Blackguard, to try and convert the 3rd Ed. Aura of Despair. It meant it became an innate spell rather than an actual Aura, but I didn't mind much. Link to comment
Corradun
Well, I feel like if we are going to option a Blackguard kit it should be the antithesis of the paladin and have opposite style abilities of the base paladin class. So here are my suggestions: Special abilities - Detect good 1/level/day +2 - Protection from good 1/level/day (also adds protection from celestial creatures like planetars and devas since protection from evil protects against summoned demons) - Inflict serious wounds 1/2 levels/day - Animate Dead at 5th level - Control Undead at 7th level (if there is no innate turn ability granted) - Contagion at 9th level. HLA's All warrior class abilities except add either Summon Fiend or Gate to the repertoire since paladins can use the Summon Deva ability. Hit Die: d10 Advantages: +2 to all saving throws Disadvantages: May only specialize in weapons. Only granted spells to 3rd level. Link to comment
Andyr
Well, here's a kit blurb, though I'm still pondering abilities: The Blackguard is a warrior devoted to Evil and the service of vile deities, quite the opposite of the Paladin. A powerful, self - serving and single - minded foe, the Blackguard is a fearsome being, the quintessential villain. Sometimes called Anti - Paladins, many Blackguards start off as warriors who quickly become seduced by the powers they can obtain and the hold they have over others. They freely trample over the innocent in their quests to get what they want. The most depraved Blackguards are often Paladins who, seduced by promises of power whispered by foul deities, have fallen from grace. Regardless of their origins, Blackguards enjoy a blasphemous range of powers which they use to spread the message of their divine patron as they wreck a trail of despair across the land. So, that's the sort of feel I'm aiming for in a kit. NiGHTMARE, how is it possible to stop a Paladin from auto - falling? You mentioned before you think you know... Link to comment
NiGHTMARE
My idea is purely theoretical, but easy to test. I'll try it out ASAP and let you know if it works... Link to comment
Guest Guest_fallen_demon
will blackguards select a evil diety. Link to comment
Andyr
I doubt it... If there's any fiend summoning spells, though, I'd definitely make sure you get LE blackguards summoning devils and CE summoning demons. Link to comment

NiGHTMARE
Okay, so that didn't quite work as expected, but I do have another idea which I'll try out in the near future... Link to comment
Andyr
wut about NE?edit: relized I wrote ln and changed apropriatley I would suggest a NE Blackguard would be able to choose either a devil-summoning or a demon-summoning HLA, but not both. Else, there is a NE series of fiends called Yugoloths. NiGHT: Cool, let me know. Link to comment
Guest Guest
Summon Fiend and Gate are useless if the Blackguard has no access to the 'Protection From Evil' spell. Fair enough, unless you are soloing the character will probably have a companion who can cast it, but a high level ability that relies on other people helping is pretty poor IMO. Maybe it would be possible to use slightly amended versions that make the caster immune but still have the demons or devils be hostile to everything else (i.e. not controllable.) The rest of the part will have to take care of themselves, of course. Link to comment
