"Make Watchers' Keep accessible between SoA and ToB" bug

Accessing WK in SoA automatically advances the game to ToB.

I went to WK and as soon as I'd entered the area the whole party got a huge boost in experience. I thought that maybe we'd been carried to ToB, so I tried to exit the area - and yep, the World Map had been switched to ToB's and the only place I could go was the Forest of Tethir. I uninstalled the "Make Watchers' Keep accessible between SoA and ToB" component and everything returned to normal.

Thanks; yes, clearly a bug. Will fix. Reinstalling shortly before the end of SoA (say, after entering Hell) will still work, if you still want access.

Hi,

I have SCS2 version 8 and have encountered the same problem. I didn't know where it was from so I posted at SHS in the megamods forum. Basically the Saerilith mod has a quest that transports you there, then the party was transported around the map twice and started a throne of bhaal game. I had just exited the underdark and was on my way back to town, so I'm only halfway through the game after two months playing (with all the mods installed).

Is there a workaround or hotfix to make the game not start TOB and still allow me to check out Watcher's Keep? My other solution would be to skip the Saerelith mod and go to WK after BG2.

Thanks,

maximus

The workaround is just not to install the component until after you've finished any SoA trips to WK. (So installing it once you get to Hell works, for instance.)

As noted before, this is a bug, basically caused by the fact that it didn't occur to me that anyone would install this component and nonetheless go to WK in SoA.

I still experience the same problem--not being able to access my SoA game after going to Watch's Keep--even after I uninstalled the component.

Can anyone help me out?

Well, the problem I have is that I can't reproduce this problem on my own system.

Can you post your WEIDU.log?

I'm still at a loss to see what's causing this. Absent any other possibility, I'm guessing it's something hardcoded. (Among other things, this component changes the .exe instruction as to where ToB starts.)

I think the best thing to do is just acknowledge that there's an issue here and make the component block access to WK in SoA (and flag that in the readme).

But we ought to be able to access WK in SoA--at least in the unmodded game. It would now seem that

installing SCS2 stops you from going there and now we must wait till ToB before exploring WK.

The unmodded game isn't the issue. (Do you mean that you're still getting the behaviour even when SCS2 is uninstalled? If so, it probably means your install has got corrupted. The most likely reason is that you uninstalled while BG2 was open, although there are other possibilities.)

Indeed, SCS2 in general isn't the issue. It's not about installing SCS2 in general, it's about this particular component.

The problem is that this component (which is designed for people who want to explore WK between SoA and ToB) is causing unintended behaviour, which I can't reproduce and therefore can't fix, for people who go to WK before ToB. In this situation, it seems to me that the right solution is that

(a) if you want to go to WK in SoA, don't install this component.

(b) the component should block travel to WK in SoA to avoid these bugs, which are fairly game-breaking.

The only people who won't get the component's benefit are those who want to do part of WK in SoA, and the rest between ToB and SoA. I doubt there are many of these; if they are, they need to install the component part way through.

There must be a solution to this.

Feel free to code one. But it's basically impossible for me to fix a bug which doesn't occur on my own computer.

Have the ToB starter area be neither WK or the Forest of Heads, but an empty new one. As soon as the area loads, a script fires that asks "Do you want to go to WK or the Forest?" and then MoveCreature() to the chosen area.

PS: I had the bug too, but have since deleted the weidu.log. Try going to WK with Yoshimo in Ch.2 or Ch.3 and see if he is deleted.

Wouldn't that still count as being transported to ToB nonetheless, with all the issues abovementioned?

The issue is that even after uninstalling the component, I get stuck in Tob without access to SoA. What this means is that once the component is installed, I can't for some reason undo it.

I also tried to take Yoshimo along to WK, but he 'died' upon entry, and the game says you cannot import Yoshimo into ToB.
