Working as both Pen and Sword (scribe and fighting guard) made him attractive as an independent, since he could balance accounts, keep inventory, and still operate as a sellsword. A few campaigns with mercenary companies, a few battles, and lots of wandering about has brought him to Amn. He hastens to note that he is not the man to send in to negotiate anything, preferring to wield weapons rather than the spoken word - but if you want a trading contract written up, he's the right man for the job.~ [c-aran44]

OK, a few changes. I haven't given up on the Art of Bawdy Song, but I wanted to get a solid set up for the alpha, and there needs to be some more playing about with soundfiles before that happens. But, here is the work so far.

/* sound themes */

1 c-arnfth = friend, upbeat

2 c-arnfti = friend, introspective

3 c-arnltl = love, upbeat

4 c-arnltl = love, introspective

5 c-arandf = drunk or in an inn, fast

6 c-arands = inn, introspective

Now, with the sound themes, these are probably twice as long as they should be, so there may have to be some adjusting. I based them on the length of the Bg1NPC music Project clips, between 45 seconds an 1 minute, as those are designed to run instead of voicing, thinking "hey - options. No voicing, just music. Voicing, no music. Music and voicing. Etc.". The idea is to wavc these, so it can drop into any kind ov install, using this:

/* set up what sounds need to be installed for this component to be covered */
ACTION_CLEAR_ARRAY  ~sounds~
ACTION_DEFINE_ARRAY ~sounds~ BEGIN
 ~c-aws001~
 ~c-aws002~
 <<snip for space>>
END

/* look for the resulting .wav files and copy them into the game */
ACTION_PHP_EACH ~sounds~ AS ~index~ => ~sound~ BEGIN
 ACTION_IF (NOT FILE_EXISTS_IN_GAME ~%sound%.wav~) BEGIN
COPY ~aranw/media/wavc/%sound%.wav~ ~override~
 END
END

but I am not sure abbout how large a download I want (or if I care). Theacefes's stuff and BG1NPC handled this with an add-on mod. I might do the same. Anyways,

Who's the VA? Not 100% convinced on the accent, but the acting is very good! (You know I'm blunt, right?)

Love the third music group, but then, I love Cantiga. I've got a vocal version of riuriuchiu, but your instrumental version is better for Aran. I hope you play the "drunk" one as ambient music in Aran's inn! The second would be my second choice. I like it, and it has the advantage of not being copyrighted, but I like the first a great deal. The default... well, it's perfectly acceptable, but I'm just not that fond of brass. Sorry!

I should probably swap in the guitar or the third as the "default", actually - the brass is fun for me, but probably a little too "anachronistic" if that can apply to a fantasy setting. I did the VO myself; I didn't even attempt to do the accent :) (Blunt is good).

OK, several years later, and some things have moved on.

BG2:EE and BG:EE can play .oggs directly, and Wisp has coded up a new function HANDLE_AUDIO. BG2 and BG still want .wav or .wavc, but using stuff that is compressed to .wavc format takes special handling - something eventually is going to make these a pain to deal with in terms of maintenance.

I wanted to use .wavc format as it simplified things and made installation easy - copy, paste, done. But in the interests of making things similar to most other mods, I think the way to deal with this now is to do a "less is more" and a "follow the crowd" approack - trying to find a source of crashing with this many potential soundsets was a PITA enough, and now to fix it I have to go back to the original soundsets in .wav format and reconvert. Or cut the soundclip I wanted.

So, since I have to do a trial run with recording it myself anyways, I guess it is

1. revert old to .wav format, record new in .wav format

2. ogg the resulting .wav files

3. distribute using "HALDLE_AUDIO".

NOTE: We want to not fill mygame/override with a bunch of extra files, so the creation of the sound content to be added needs to be messed with and copied into place within the mod BEFORE we deal with HANDLE_AUDIO. We may have to play about with things on the IF_FILE_EXISTS and within the ACTION_IF statements that install the soundsets, just to make sure.

Heh. Spoke too soon.

http://www.shsforums.net/topic/44156-wavc/?p=476276

So the last thing I want to do is add *more* huge audio files to Mega Installs. .WAVC it is. I don't care at all about mod download size, I care about keeping the load on the engine low. Since I am talking about adding a large number of VO files, I'd better stick with the original plan.
