Crashes with Smarter Mages Component

Hey everyone

 

I just started a new game and everything worked fine untill i got out of the start dungeon.

Now i frequently crash when i zone into an area with npc mages.

I've tried to uninstall the smarter mages component and that solved the problem. It doesn't matter which one of the features i install, i still keep crashing.

Does anyone know another way to fix this problem? I'd very much like to keep having the component installed :)

There shouldn't be anything wrong with my hardware. I got a Geforce 8800 GTS, 2gb ram and a dualcore cpu.

* Option 3: Mages never cast spells instantly. (Though, again, they can very quickly use contingencies and sequencers to defend themselves.)

 

Game crash when I install this composent. Especially when gaylan invit me to his house.

 

 

PS : i play with Smarter Mages Component option 2 and all mages seems to be very powerfull. I have done some quest and i have never seen a single mage without any protection and only mages whose ambush you are supposed to have a ton of protection

It's my understanding that it's actually "Option 3: Mages/Priests never cast [short duration] spells instantly", rather than no spells i.e. long-term spells like Stoneskin are cast anyway.

Weird. I suspect that's an interaction with some other component instead of a crash in SCS2 itself, but I'll do some testing.

I'm having the same problem: Smarter Mages causes the game to crash when I try to enter an area that loads extensive Mage scripts. I thought that QP's General AI Improvements could be the culprit and left it out in my current installation. There was indeed a noticeable improvement- I got through Cha. II+III with only the occasional crash when I tried to enter Ribald's but in the Underdark ( Quilue's Home and her 5 Drow Servants) things deteriorated: the game crashed when I tried to enter Quilue's home and afterwards the Quick Save and all regular saves in the Underdark refused to load, the loading screen stopped halfway through the circle and a reboot was the only way out.

After deinstalling Smarter Mages everything works like a charm again.

It looks like not many people have that problem so I wonder if it could be hardware related ? ( my BG 2 runs on a Athlon XP 1600, 256 MB, GiForce 2 video card )
