Weird Goings-on with SCSII Ease of use party AI

When I assign the Ease of Use AI from SCSII to an NPC, the AI works fine. But any time I save a game and load it, the NPC who had the AI activated now has his AI set to "none." Is there something that might be causing this?

I've been having an identical problem, myself. I'd thought it was just interference from other mods, as I'd only seen it manifest on my experimental install, and scsii tends to be pretty reliable; but I just put together a stable setup of scsii and got the same issue. I can confirm the following:

 

(a) 0dw#gen.bcs is saved in baldur.gam as the character's class script;

(b) upon reloading the saved game (and not before), the script is removed.

 

If it would be helpful, I'm willing to try it on a perfectly clean install (patch, bg2fixpack, & scsii, sans bwp fixpack). In fact, I'll go do that now, just for kicks.

 

Edit: I checked DPLAYER.bcs and BALDUR.bcs for ChangeAIScript()... but nada.

 

Edit: My WeiDU.log was here, but I've removed it for readability. It wasn't that relevant.

Okay, okay. Cannot reproduce without BWP Fixpack installed. I'll take a closer look at the patches in the fixpack and post again if something interesting comes up.

 

Edit: I think I found the problem, but I'm really too tired to say anything clever or analytical.

 

BWP Fixpack applies the following patch to setup-scsii.tp2:

-COPY_EXISTING ~0dw#gen.bcs~ ~scripts\0dw#gen.bs~

+COPY_EXISTING ~0dw#gen.bcs~ ~scripts\0dw#gen.bcs~

Am I the only one who can't figure out why BWP makes this change?

 

@Sayne: All you need to do is go to the "scripts" directory in the "BGII - SoA" directory, and rename the file "0dw#gen.bcs" to "0dw#gen.bs"

 

The engine is kicking the script from the script-slot because the extension is silly; but it only bothers to kick it on reload. QED.

 

Incidently, and kind of off-topic, but I found a small bug while I was manually installing scsii: The component "Give Ascension demons SCSII scripts and abilities" offers the nstall or [N]ot Install jazz even if Ascension isn't installed. And I just noticed that this slipped into my automated install as well. Sigh.

 

Edit: Heh. Might as well throw in another minor error, since I'm in a helpful mood: scsii doesn't properly patch the description of Breach. At the end of the description, it reads "Breach will not dispel Iron Skins." Since you seem to be guardian of the the Fixpack these days, you might as well just edit it out of the GTU (It stands out like a sore thumb; there's a big, long list of spells affected by Breach, and then a lonely comment about Iron Skins. Locally, I just patch the GTU, and this makes the description look pretty).

Yep that did it.

 

Probably just a typo in the Big World Fixpack files. I wonder if there's a hotfix for the thing that's supposed to preclude the need for hotfixes? ;-)

A fixpack for the fixpack of The Fixpack? That *would* be funny.

 

But I think BWP thought they were correcting a typo in the scsii tp2... They saw ".bs" and thought: "Uhm... Compiled scripts are supposed to be .bcs... We'll fix this up and then send DavidW some coffee."

Can I remind you guys that while I have absolutely no objection to third-party fixpacks for SCS, it really would be a good idea if you remembered to post any BWP fixes on this forum - then I'm likely to be able to spot problems like this a lot quicker, as well as being able to take genuine fixes (i.e., the vast majority) into account in future releases.
