AI Updates not responding with mods

This is a strange error. When I update my AI updates to "40" there is no increase in speed of any of the chars in the game. Whether it would be BG1, BG2, etc... (BG1 using BGTutu, which is the same as BG2).

 

Now, when I create a new char, like I said, no change. But when I import a custom made char, all of a sudden, the AI updates work? This is throwing me for a loop.
