corsair Posted March 3, 2009 Share Posted March 3, 2009 Hello everybody I hope I am posting this in the right place*gulp*.I am trying to get Planescape:torment on my PC(2.2GHz core 2 duo,2 GB RAM,8600 GT,Windows XP). I tried to run the game but after I set up the character maker points and try to move on into the game, I just crash back to desktop. I have d/l the application compatibility toolkit and have done what the FAQ tells,but it doesn't make any difference. That page further requires me to disable all software XYZ settings in the Video Options screen- But I cannot access the game's Video options-havent seen such an option/button in the main screen. Also, I tried setting up the Nvidia control panel so that graphical options are application controlled or disabled but I keep crashing to the desktop after the character creation menu. (I also saw someone's post about turning on software tranparency but I have only seen an option to switch on/off antialiasing transparency and fiddling with that didnt help any). I did a full install as the 'common problems' thread asked me to and I changed the path to CD2 to the folder containing CD2 info,(But I have just two disks where as the ini file shows path for FOUR cd's!)but it still wont work.I keep getting the "ERROR: BIFF [./<movie4>.BIF] cannot be loaded" errors when I try setting up WSM. If you get the message "ERROR: BIFF [./<something>.BIF] cannot be loaded", you need to apply a full install of the game,is what the thread says,but I did do a full install! PST requires a new save game, the post says but how can I get a save game when I cant get into the game?*sorry about the stupid questions but I am no good with computers,so any help would be very much appreciated* sorry for the doublepost. Jarno Mikkola Posted March 3, 2009 Share Posted March 3, 2009 First of all, you just have to get the game running in the unmoded game and so this has nothing to do with the Widescreen mod or with the other problems, as you don't need them to be solved... Well, it might be that your 2 game CDs are scathed, so the files aren't readable. This is also probably the reason why the movie4.bif is not copied to the game directory(well, mine is in the "C:\Games\Torment\CD4\cd4" -directory if you can believe that) Link to comment
corsair Posted March 3, 2009 Author Share Posted March 3, 2009 Ty for replying sir. I thought I wasnt able to play the game due to my monitor being widescreen. I have had issues with other games like anno 1701 where I had to force my monitor to be in 1024*768 resolution (My normal max resolution is 1280*720). As to the movies4.bif, sir, it is there in the HDD folder (D:\cd2), and have modified the torment.ini to look in there for the second cd but I still get that error anyhow. I am probably doing something wrong, but I'll put in the debug file just in case someone can spot the error. When I copied the cds as per the instructions for the full install, it created two folders looking like ...\ptdisk\CD2\cd2\... I got rid of the extra folders in front and everything is working fine.
