Hi @ all!

I'm playing with SCS (as usual) but noticed that some creatures react to hostile ones by siding with them even if they shouldn't.

The messengers and the hunter in the area south of the Friendly Arm Inns are examples: if they spawn near some enemies they turn red. They anyway follow their script and talk to the player then disappear.

It's not a big issue but could cause problems with summoned creatures.

The same thing anyway happens in the big city during the thief quest, when you have to stand outside a house to check if a guard approaches. As soon as the guard turns hostile (if you give the alarm to the thieves inside the house) the whole area becomes hostile as well.

That's a bit more troublesome than the messenger issue.

I encountered the guard issue with the mod selection listed here: http://www.shsforums.net/index.php?showtopic=39580 while in my current game (being it at the beginning) I had the possibility to check only the messenger problem.

I think it's a SCS problem since it's the only mod that changes the AI.. Hope not to have missed a mod again!

I think it could be the "better call for arms" component from SCSI-SCSII, didn't have that issue with BGT alone.

Good call, this is basically a known issue that needs fixing. Can you list explicitly exactly who's affected?

I currently don't remember them all, the ones I can recall right now are:

- the whole Baldur's Gate area in which the thief quest takes place (the NE area?), if the player warns the thieves of the guard;

- Aoln in the crossroads (AR2800);

- the messenger in the southern part of the crossroads (AR2800);

- Roger, the messenger in the southern part of the area south of High Edge (AR3700).

If it can be of any help, I noticed that all of the above walks towards charname to start the dialog, while the ones not affected by the bug stands still waiting for charname to initiate the dialog himself (while in an unmodded game they walk towards charname as well).

The first issue listed is the only one that could cause some serious trouble (the other ones are anyway npcs who disappear after a while, the commoners and the guard are permanently hostile in the area instead).

I'm sorry for not being able to recall if there are other npcs with the same issue, if I find them I will let you know. :blush:

DavidW: For the hobgoblin shout issue, I think the whitelist approach that I implemented in the unofficial hotfix is safer than blacklisting certain creatures. You can't count on finding every single CRE that might be affected, especially if someone changes the spawn system. (i. e. Hobgoblins spawning somewhere else.)

Believe it or not (says the author of a mod with 19,000-line scripts) I was trying to avoid script bloat. However, I think the evidence is on your side here; I'll probably revert to the whitelist approach in the next version.

FLAMHUSB.cre is affected negatively and makes all of Beregost go hostile. I've slightly modified that encounter.... He'd be better off with no shout script at all... :)
