Order of installation might need to be updated.

Recommended Posts

I have been having problems with a rogue rebalancing item, namely the Darkveil that does not protect against medusas in BG1.

On the rogue rebalancing forum, I was given a different installation order to that given on this one. Is it that this one needs an update? Reading between the lines I think that it may be more complex than that.

Nope. He means medusas. Apparently they are part of the Gavin mod.

How to get them? I'm usually playing with Gavin in my party?

I'm not 100% sure that they are part of the Gavin mod, but they are definitely there.

At first I thought that they were part of SCS.

I read on a thread somewhere that they came from the Gavin mod.

Have you been sent to deal with Mutamin by the priest of Lathander east of Beregost?

Anyone who knows for sure which mod they came from, please let me know.

My installation is:

From the rogue rebalancing website, I have discovered that the medusas are NOT from the Gavin mod.

I'll have to read through all the readmes again and see if I can discover which mod they came from.

That's the problem with megamods.

Are the basilisks in Mutamin's Garden, the area east of Beregost Temple?

I remember reading somewhere about potion of mirror eyes not protecting against the basilisk's gaze weapon on some BGT installations. If Darkveil uses the same effect code, that might be the issue right there. I don't know if this was fixed.

Unfortunately, that's also the problem of having a forum as a bug-report archive. Stuff gets buried and the real bugs and solutions get harder to find. Then, when the bug shows up again, we all remember a lot of "I think I read somewhere"s, and they're worse than useless, because they make people waste time on dead-ends. Someone googling this problem, for example, will get pointed to Gavin. Hopefully, I'll still be around when that happens, and hopefully, it won't be buried in an unrelated thread.

Darkveil's protection method against gaze attacks is twofold. First, it makes the wearer immune to all attacks which use the standard gaze projectile (GAZE.PRO) such as the Basilisk's petrifying gaze, for example. Second, it makes the wearer immune to all SPL files which are used as gaze attacks by creatures (i.e. an Umber Hulk's Confusion Gaze, a Tanar'ri Death Gaze...etc.).

However, if a mod introduces a creature which employs a custom SPL file for its gaze attack and if that spell does not use the standard gaze projectile, then Darkveil cannot protect the wearer against it. This could be the case with the aforementioned Medusas. So, if we could identify the mod which adds them, I might be able to rectify that.

Ah. Gotcha.

Guess it means looking at a lot of tp2s. Yuck.

I don't know if this helps, but I have a file called F_MEDUSA.cre and one called F_medusa.BAF in the Drizzt Saga. I can do a search in my files for anything that contains medusa if that would help.

There is a file with the same name in my Tutu override folder.

Confirmed that it is the Drizzt saga that has brought in the medusas. Installing Rogue rebalancing after the Drizzt Saga will I think solve the problem.

I think however that it will be adressed in the future such that installation order won't be critical.

See the thread on the rogue rebalancing forum at SHS for further details here:
