Guest myziar
Hi everyone, so at the moment, my party of 4 are all in the late levels after doing Watcher's Keep, and right now a couple of my dual-wielders got a couple of HLA's. Since I've thought my Critical Strike is enough (got 6 of them), I decided to try to test Greater Deathblow. Imagine my disappointment when I tried using it on the Glabrezus that come with Demogorgon, and they didn't work Here are the list of relatively tough monsters that should be insta-killed (or so I've heard) by Greater Deathblow in the vanilla game: 1. Glabrezus 2. Mind Flayers 3. Elder Orbs 4. Beholders So is Greater Deathblow nigh-useless now? Or are those Glabrezus "special" in some way? I think I've read in the readme that DavidW raised the levels of some creatures in order to match their abilities, or something like that.. Link to comment

A good number of spellcasters have had their level raised (sometimes quite considerably) to make their spell selection legal. Link to comment

Glabrezus within SCS have 17HD as almost all demons and devils get more HD/levels to make them a real threat instead of cannor fodder and to make their Dispel Magic checks more powerful. In general SCS increases HD/levels to spellcasting creatures, thus Mind Flyers and Beholders don't get increased HD/levels. Elder Orbs deserve much more than 9HD/levels imo, and I suppose/hope they get increased HD because of their spellcasting abilities. Link to comment
DavidW
Actually, SCS2 raises Mind Flayers to level 12 (so Greater Deathblow will still work on them) and Ulitharids to level 14 (as of next version) (so GRDB won't work on them). It leaves beholders alone; it raises Elder Orbs to c. 18th level; it raises Glabrezu's to c. 15th level. Other than the mind flayers, none of this was a deliberate attempt to spoil GrDB - but it seems to me about right, in any case. Link to comment

The only creatures I do think are too high in levels within SCS are liches. I've one doubt about Glabrezus, your readme states that they have 17HD not 15HD, which solution do you prefer? Because I'd like to have SR's ones with the same value for consistency. Personally I prefer 17HD because it scales better compared to Marilith (20HD) and Balor (24HD). It's GrDB itself which is a really bad HLA idea imo. Link to comment

The only creatures I do think are too high in levels within SCS are liches. Why to 11th level, just out of interest? Personally I prefer 17HD because it scales better compared to Marilith (20HD) and Balor (24HD). I'd personally go with 17 myself, but then I'm not a modder. Just my 2 cents. I do agree, powerful creatures shouldn't be so low in levels imo (in vanilla some mind flyers could be killed via Death Spell). It's GrDB itself which is a really bad HLA idea imo. As I recall, in Vanilla all Mind Flayers could be killed by Death Spell, but their 90% MR stopped it most of the time, with the exception of the Flayers from the rescue Phaere fight, since those counted as summoned creatures. As an off topic aside, do BG1 and BG2 work on Vista? I'm thinking of re-installing. Link to comment
