Weird naming error

[Ohpus]

I installed a bunch of mods which are supposedly compatable (I read all the readme-s first) and I ended up with a bunch of non-joinable NPCs being renamed. These are not normal names, and look like dialogue or someone (some mod writer) expressing their opinion of the mod's use.

 

In one example Sheri the Bardess was named: "What are you like, five?" At the moment Laran is named "I'm Sorry! I Really didn't expect anyone to notice." and Sheri "Anyone would want to be your friend, Yasrena".

 

I'm thinking a mod incompatability and i suspect it would be one or more of the NPC mods. The suspicious thing is that so far every RE NPC is renamed.

I tried installing them logically (ie NPCs together ahead of Flirt Packs, Tweaks together, etc).

 

I originally had Edwin at the top, but it had the happier Viconia ending, so I tried at least the ToB part installed after the Flirt Pack (IIRC) to accomplish this. According to the Edwin Romance readme only the Fixpack with the Edwina material should cause a conflict, and only if its added after. Before, or not at all, should be fine. Not sure how that would affect the restore of the Edwina female voice set.

 

Why would the fixpack be installed last? To preserve any fixes? I was thinking that you would want to fix anything before you install other stuff over "unfixed" stuff. (Building your house upon the sand kinda deal).

It's not about the mods; it's your installation. It usually happens when the user tries to install two or more mods at once.

 

What you have to do is to restore a clean backup from here: http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/topic,17555 or fully reinstall your game. Take care to install only one mod at a time, without the game or game-related utilities running at the background.

 

BG2 Tweaks is installed close to last, because it's a tweakpack that modifies all files in the game, including mod files.

 

Old mods(Ascension, Edwin Romance, Valen, Solaufein) should be installed right after Fixpack - because Edwin Romance, for example, overwrites his dream script file.

 

Bottom line: I recommend installing only the mods you need on this one playthrough. It's your call, though - just be careful. (And, no, the problem is not RE-related).

I installed one at a time. I understand you were just being thorough.

 

I figured it was a mod conflict and I was sure it was not RE since the RE character names were being overwritten. I guessed it was some kind of unknown mod conflict and thought someone would have some insight since it seemed to be affecting RE stuff the most.

 

I actually had more NPC mods installed. The goals: To see how much could be installed, and to create 1 install before i ghosted the drive for multiple replays. It also makes the Crossmod Romance pack a bit more useful.

 

Anyhoo....The first install I did had very few mods installed. I'll give the above advice a shot and then do a minimal install if that fails. I'll post the new weidu file just for referance.

It looks fine now. I pushed the RE to the top of the install.

 

I think what the real issue was not install order, but either uninstalling certain mods earlier in the stack or using Shadowkeeper to edit the save game. In the testing I noticed that the renaming issue happened with edited saved games, but not with new ones. Funny thing is that this happened with some creatures in areas I hadn't been to yet, so I assume the variables had not been set yet.

 

So a combination of the two?

 

 

OT: If you want a harder game Full Plate and Packing Steel is awesome for that.
