Randall Good Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Despite how old Baldur's Gate is and how long I've been playing it, I never enable Cheats or Debug Mode. Now that I find myself needing to check some NPC variables (it's so hard to please Shar-Teel), I can't get around it. Unfortunately, every time I try to save any changes made to the baldur.ini file, I am told that it "Cannot create the ...(location of the file)...\baldur.ini file" and to "Make sure the path and file name are correct." I hope I'm simply missing a crucial (and easy) step here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You'll either want to turn UAC off, install your game to a different path than C:\Program Files\, or a combination of the two.
Randall Good Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 Indeed, I am using Vista and I shake my fist in irritation. One more question though: what is UAC? I expect it's something painfully obvious.

Randall Good Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 Well, I disabled the UAC and it allowed me to save Debug Mode=1 into the baldur.ini file in the BGII folder. This got rid of all of my save files in BGTutu, however, and I wasn't expecting that. The mods, though, still seem to work. Frustratingly, I still don't seem to be able to access the cheat menu. I press Ctrl+Space Bar, but nothing happens except the game pauses (because of the Space Bar I imagine). Suggestions? Update: I tried adding Debug Mode=1 to the baldur.ini file in the BGTutu folder and now I can access the cheat console. Still, I wonder if this was the right thing to do because every forum post I've been to seems to indicate that it's the baldur.ini file under BGII SoA that needs to be altered.

I think having it installed in the Program Files folder means that UAC creates a duplicate folder for your saved files, so your saves might have ended up in a different place. Try looking in C:\users\yourusername\appdata\local\virtualstore for your saves. Do you use EasyTutu or the older Tutu v4? Tutu v4 uses the BGII folder while EasyTutu creates its own folder, and the baldur.ini you need to modify is the one in the folder used by your version of Tutu. Old posts will refer to the BGII folder because EasyTutu wasn't available then.

My concern now, then, is how to monitor/edit the opinions of the NPCs through this cheat console. Again, I am at the mercy of your wisdom Mike.

From the BG1 NPC Project Shar-Teel Romance Issue thread, In the console, enter: CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("X#SharInterest","GLOBAL") (The GetGlobal command lets you know the current value of a variable.) If the return value is "3", then enter: CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("X#SharInterest","GLOBAL",1) (The SetGlobal command lets you change the value of a variable.)
Randall Good Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 Ah, excellent. Thank you very much! I think this takes care of everything.
