PetrusOctavianus
One thing that's always bugged me about BG2 is that traveling north from the Slums to the Bridge would land the party in the north end of the Bridge map. Are there any mods that fix this and other similar errors in BG2? Is it even fixable? Link to comment
devSin
No. Sort of. World map pathfinding exists, so even though you're coming from the Slums, the engine may route you through the city gates and government district and then to the bridge, for instance. So you could make sure that a link directly from the Slums to the bridge dumps you out at the correct entrance, but there's no guarantee the engine would even use that link when you travel to the bridge (and, more likely, there wouldn't even be a direct link to the bridge). Anyway, for the bridge specifically, you enter at the north because the lieutenant sets up the area and they didn't want you to be able to skip him (same way you only enter the shadow temple or Windspear Hills from a single entry point--'cause that's where the quest events are); the engine doesn't allow you to change these during the game, so they made it so that you'll always start in the same spot in this area (unlike the Slums at the start of the game, they can't predetermine where you're coming from). Jarno Mikkola
Besides the whole scenario would go up like a bad apple cause Aegisfield(spoilers) wouldn't be there to greet you. Link to comment
PetrusOctavianus
Hmm...couldn't they instead just script Inspector Closeau and other NPCs to appear near the party the first time entering the relevant area. Link to comment
Lollorian
The roads connecting the districts may not be straight, they could be taking the long way around the city It's not like you're jumping over the rooftops to directly get to your place <insert spiderman themesong > (atleast, that's how I thought about it ... but yeah, I see things others don't ... and dead people too ) Cheers, Lol Link to comment
Arashi Kai
Also, if you look at your world map after being "waylaid by enemies, and must defend yourself" , you may sometimes be somewhere that is the total opposite direction of where you really want to go. Mayhap the characters are doing some sightseeing on there way ? I just found that to be very quirky and maybe that explains why the party doesn't show up where we think/want them to. Link to comment
