Haer d'Alise is cursed.

Just did the fight against the Lich holding the Nether Scroll. I decided to use a Scroll of Protection Undead. According to the desription it's supposed to have an area effect, but it didn't, so it was up to Haer to save the day. So while the rest of the party retreats Haer quaffs a Speed Potion and is ready for action. The Scroll lasts 10 rounds, so he can wait out the short duration protections of the Lich, like Mantle and Prot Magic Weapons. The Lich casts Mordekain's Sword though, so I'm forced to use Jan and Edwin to Magic Missile it. Fortunately Liches have one weakness - they are slow, so it's easy to stay out of range.

Anyway Haer pound on the lich and in the course of the fight he had like 15-20 Critical Misses! But he did get a critical with the hit that finished off the Lich, though. I've never seen a more unlucky character than him. Every enemy pounds on him in melee, he's always first choice for backstabbing thieves and he never make saving throws agains undead paralyze and disease effects.

 

What do others think of Haer? In theory he's an excellent character, but in practice he can't match guys like Korgan, Keldorn and Anomen.
