New HLAs not available for fighter/mage/cleric

Hi all,

I installed the tweak pack a few days ago, and specifically selected "remove exp cap" and "new HLAs for triple class chars" components. However when levelling up a fighter/mage/cleric beyond 3 mill exp, I still get the original HLA options (ie no mage HLAs like L6-8 spells, comet, or imp alacrity, not even greyed out).

The character was generated before installing the tweak pack, but was only at low level (no HLAs at all at that time).

Any ideas why the mod doesnt seem to be in effect? eg. Maybe the mage HLAs only appear when the char is high level enough to cast L9 spells?

Thanks!

I believe this is the case. You should still see them there but greyed out in the mean time, though. Try using the console to give your character 9,000,000 XP (which should get them to mage level 18) and see if it works then.

Thanks Mike.

I'm running on Vista with GBII installed into Program Files - and have just realised that Vista won't let me edit any files in here, such as debug mode in baldur.ini - damn! So I don't have access to the console.

(I could uninstall/reinstall elsewhere, or just keep playing till I hit 9mill exp I guess...?)

The mage HLA options are definitely not present as greyed out options however (in contrast to the original cleric HLAs, which were there greyed out at lower level and became enabled when I hit cleric level 14).

P.S. A long shot - maybe this whole thing is a Vista issue due to certain files not being editable by the tweak pack? Seems strange though as other components from the tweak pack are working fine.

Any other thoughts?

That's possible. You might try looking in your "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA" directory to see if there's anything that was supposed to go into Program Files and didn't make it. I think you can probably just migrate over anything you find.

If you want to move your BG2 installation somewhere outside of Program Files, like C:\games, you can do so without much difficulty so long as you update your baldur.ini path references to point to the new directory and update your game shortcut to launch bgmain.exe instead of baldur.exe.

Ah, bring back XP, Vista sucks.

I managed to copy/move the BGII installation to outside of Program Files (thanks for the tip about the \User\... directory), and reinstalled the tweak pack just to be sure. I can now use the console, so set xp to 9000000. However still no joy - only the original Fighter/Cleric HLAs appear at level-up, with no mage HLAs visible (greyed out or otherwise).

At least I can use Shadowkeeper now, so I guess I could edit the save file after each level up to change the HLAs to what I wanted. But I'd much rather the mod did it.

Hmm... can you post the contents of lufmc.2da from your override? That will let us know for sure whether the file was patched successfully.

See, these only become available after your total level reaches 32.

Thanks for all the help guys, we're getting somewhere.

It seems like the lufmc.2da is good, yet it isnt reflected at all in what I see at levelup.

For instance, I get the option of selecting Deathblow (SPCL902), Greater Deathblow (SPCL903) and War Cry (SPCL908) at level up - yet these were all supposed to be removed in the mod, and indeed are all gone from lufmc.2da.

The Mage HLAs never appear even as greyed out options. My char is currently over total level 32, and I even levelled it up using the console to over level 32 in the mage class, and these options never appear greyed out or otherwise.

Looks like the BGII-SoA\override\lufmc.2da file is somehow not registering and not overriding the default HLA settings. Strange, given that other components from this mod pack are working happily (e.g. stacking hundreds of arrows and having to identify potions) .

It sounds like luabbr.2da is not linking FIGHTER_MAGE_CLERIC to FMC. Did you install the Fixpack? If not, you might want to manually edit luabbr.2da.

Fixpack is installed - but luabbr.2da is missing altogether!!!

ToB is installed (obviously)... I notice on http://weidu.org/ease/README-Ease.txt a vague reference about luabbr maybe being deleted by an older version of a similar mod... could this be relevant? Otherwise, any way to get hold of luabbr.2da?

One luabbr.2da original BG2 ToB with patch 26498.

10th

All sorted - thanks 10th and everyone else!! (I downloaded luabbr, placed in override, and updated with FMC and FMT - all HLAs are now happily appearing as they should at levelup).

Great to hear. If the Fixpack was installed successfully, then I feel comfortable assigning the blame for this on that most evil of evil operating systems, Vista.
