But then again, the W7 doesn't use the actual files you have stored into the game directory, as it uses the once in the hidden "ProgramData" folder. The "BG2 Fixpack - Core Fixes: v9.01" needs to be installed before the BGT BG2Fixpack v1 or above (install before BGT-WeiDU - installing after BGT-WeiDU causes you to get the SoA world map)etc. etc.
Guest RAS Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 OPERATING SYSTEM:WINDOWS 2.6.1.7600 (Windows 7) ...your install is in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\... Are you insane or just an idiot? That's helpful. . . ~WIDESCREEN/WIDESCREEN.TP2~ #0 #0 // Widescreen Mod -> for the original Infinity Engine (CHOOSE THIS!): Widescreen Mod v2.31~SETUP-BGT.TP2~ #0 #0 // Baldur's Gate Trilogy - Core: 1.08 (16 Mar 10) This would put you to both of the category, as if the windows would actually run the game in the resolution you have put in on, you would have a nice box that doesn't work in your GUI. But then again, the W7 doesn't use the actual files you have stored into the game directory, as it uses the once in the hidden "ProgramData" folder. The resolution in-game works fine. The "BG2 Fixpack - Core Fixes: v9.01" needs to be installed before the BGT BG2Fixpack v1 or above (install before BGT-WeiDU - installing after BGT-WeiDU causes you to get the SoA world map)etc. etc. Fair enough. Gee, I appreciate the help, if you can really call that help, but perhaps instead of insulting you could actually, I don't know, explain what I'm doing wrong. The install was where it default installed it too. The widescreen, as I said, works fine. The Fixpack, I clearly didn't read well enough, so sue me. The point in all of this is, until the scripts were installed, everything ran extremely smoothly and continue to do so unless I'm using the scripts listed in the title (no matter what resolution). If you think that any of the problems you listed could be the reason, then please say so, somehow I doubt that's what you were trying to do.
berelinde Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 What Jarno was trying to say was that choosing the default installation directory for BG2 on Windows 7 might not have been your best bet. It severely limits the amount of both troubleshooting and fixing you can do. When you install in the program files directory, you lose the ability to modify game files like baldur.ini. You won't be able to use many of the debug features that let you find and correct errors. Should you choose to reinstall at this point, you might be better off creating a game directory that isn't Program files, like c:\games. There's no way you could have known to do this instinctively. I've got eScripts installed on a Vista machine on a much heavier installation and it works fine, so it's unlikely that's the culprit. I'm suspecting that your problem may be a reinstallation issue. When you uninstall or reinstall a mod, any mod, there is a chance that game scripts can become scrambled. This causes stutter, and it usually isn't fixable. I know that reinstallation is a nuissance, but that might be the only way to resolve your problem. Please see this thread for instructions on building and maintaining a clean istallation. Windows 7 (and Vista) have some platform specific quirks. I haven't been able to figure out how to disable UAC on Windows 7 yet, but disable it if you can. And don't install in the Program Files directory. Create another directory on your hard drive and install the game there. Sorry this wasn't more helpful in solving your specific issue.
Jarno Mikkola Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Gee, I appreciate the help, if you can really call that help, but perhaps instead of insulting you could actually, I don't know, explain what I'm doing wrong. Yeah, sometimes people go off, and let's just say I had a bad day. What I was trying to point out is that you have to have the install order sorted out before you go installing mods that are possibly totally incompatible with each others. So... my recommended install order is this: BG2FixpackBGT v1.09 Drizzt Saga BGT-Tweaks BGT-Music BG2 Tweaks Big Picture Detectable Stats eSeries Worldmap mod, you should install this because you have the BG2 Fixpack and the BGT. Level 1 NPCs with the .tp2 file from here(the level1npcs.tp2) Setup-gui.exe (it's inside the BGT, so it's there after the main mod is instaled) Widescreen mod I haven't been able to figure out how to disable UAC on Windows 7 yet, but disable it if you can. And don't install in the Program Files directory. Create another directory on your hard drive and install the game there. You turn it off by: Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Accounts -> Change Your User Account Control settings... set it to the bottom most option and the click the Done, and then one needs to restarting the computer for it to take effect... as the bottom most option is the "off", as you'll always start the computer with the administrator account/profile as there is no others.
Guest RAS Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Ahh, now see, that's helpful, thank you. As far as the UAC, and all that restriction jazz, I actually have almost all of that disabled and my BG2 folder has all hidden files turned on and read-only files checked off. I also am the administrative account and can edit those things as necessary. That being said, when I get around to a reinstall, which I currently don't have the time or energy for, I will reinstall in a different directory. Again, thank you both for your help, hopefully, this will provide a solution as I enjoy using the scripts but find the stuttering quite annoying.
berelinde Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Keep in mind that all AI script mods will cause a slight drop in frame rate. It's unavoidable, I'm afraid, even with systems as good as yours.
Guest Clemens Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 In windows 7 you disable UAC in almost the same way you do in vista. The difference is, in the user account settings in vista you get a uncheck box to disable it, in windows 7 you have to pull a slider down. When UAC is enabled, baldur.ini (among other files) is stored in a "virtual store" in your user folder, in my case: C:\Users\Clemens\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Black Isle\BGII - SoA
