the bigg
I don't plan to make Widescreen compatible with the gog.com release. BG1 is both the game that requires the most reverse engineering per executable version, and the most redundant game to mod for (since it has not one but two ports to the BG2 engine). Of course, if anybody does reverse the relevant offset to get this to work I'd be happy to include them in Widescreen. Link to comment
Miloch
Could you at least get WeiDU to come up with a more descriptive error message than this: FAILURE:EXE patching failed. Stopping installation because of error. ERROR: [bgmain2.exe] -> [bgmain2.exe] Patching Failed (COPY) (Failure("EXE patching failed.")) Stopping installation because of error. Stopping installation because of error. Stopping installation because of error. Stopping installation because of error. (Possibly "FAILURE: of unspecified epic proportions" .) Link to comment
the bigg
That'd be a good idea, except that the forums and Google have three years of threads discussing that error message, and changing it to something more informative means that STFF isn't a viable answer to 99% of queries. Besides, "ERROR: unknown EXE version" isn't that more informative (especially given that clueless newbies will post threads no matter what, and non-idiots can easily google for "EXE patching failed"). I'd rather change "AR0100.bif not found" to "read the readme and do a full install, you idiot", but I'd need to add TRY..CATCH to WeiDU, and nobody wants anything that useful. (not to imply that the OP is an idiot, since Gog was never discussed before and thus the question is actually legitimate in this case). Link to comment
Miloch
Well, I meant it would be more helpful for someone who *was* interested in trying to get it to work to return something a bit more useful, like ERROR: Exe size mismatch (expected x bytes, found y), or ERROR: Data mismatch (expected uvw at offset 123, found xyz). Not that I care much about getting it to work either, for the reasons you indicated, but who knows, someone might. (For that matter, it might come up again for GOG-BG2 or something.) Link to comment
the bigg
Gog-BG2 is 20 offsets, vs. 70 for Gog-BG1, and I can't tell people to GOTO Tutu. Also, chances are that GOG-BG2 requires no effort (GOG-BG1 most likely fails because of it using 5521 and not 5512, whereas BG2's size might even be unchanged by the cracking process). the bigg
pb1866 of the gog.com forums did the research, and now Widescreen is compatible with the gog.com version of BG1 (which has the same size and structure of the official 5521 BG1 patch). The updated version is currently being uploaded to the server. Link to comment

Does not work with a saved game but that is fine as I was holding off for the mod. have noticed however that the GUI does not fill the screen now - there a mod for that? Link to comment

Unfortunately, it only works for 1024x600, 1024x768, 1280x768 and 1280x800. Cheers for that. I am running at 1680 x 1050. however I want the GUI to be better so I have applied your widescreen mod at 1280x1050. I then applied the GUI mod; Am i right that I extract the files to my GOG.com/Balders Gate folder? That is what I did anyway. I then run the Setup-TWM_GUI.exe. select language etc etc, get this: WeiDU v 22000 Log Setup-TWM_GUI.exe [./Chitin.key] loaded, 240386 bytes [./Chitin.key] 226 BIFFs, 16695 resources [dialog.tlk] loaded, 3407262 bytes [dialog.tlk] 24124 string entries [./Baldur.ini] loaded, 805 bytes Possible HD/CD Path: [D:\GOG.com\Baldurs Gate\] Possible HD/CD Path: [D:\GOG.com\Baldurs Gate\data\] Possible HD/CD Path: [D:\GOG.com\Baldurs Gate\data\] Possible HD/CD Path: [D:\GOG.com\Baldurs Gate\data\] Possible HD/CD Path: [D:\GOG.com\Baldurs Gate\data\] Possible HD/CD Path: [D:\GOG.com\Baldurs Gate\data\] Possible HD/CD Path: [D:\GOG.com\Baldurs Gate\data\] [./Keymap.ini] loaded, 4277 bytes [./unins000.ini] loaded, 148 bytes [setup-TWM_GUI.exe] Using scripting style "BG1" [dialog.tlk] claims to be writeable.
