Items randomised to optional fights/opponents

Well i've been using the randomiser all the way through my playthrough and i'm up to ToB. I must say its been very nice - not only to have the feeling of excitement about where loot is again, but also that many of the more powerful items are now more difficult to find.

However there is one thing that has been irritating, and that is when items are randomised to places where the fight is optional. I don't like to be forced into fighting someone just because they might have some loot I want. Now I understand in some cases it might be neccesary, and "give me your money or we attack" fights i'm of course not counting. Perhaps you could perhaps take a look at a few locations though, and consider moving them somewhere else.

It was most prevalent in BG1 where there are numerous bandits that are optional fights hanging around, but there are also some times in BG2 where I have noticed it. Some good examples are Tellan(the gnome mage on the ice island who you can get to work with you) who gets one of the top tier items from ToSC and vongeothe in ToB.

Of course in the original game some of these opponents may have had something on them - but then now they could have anything. Its also been a little annoying to have to keep checking the spoilers list to make sure I haven't missed anything.

This is the tricky issue.

On one hand, in the case of Tellan and Vongoethe, they are both among the most powerful creatures in their part of the game, or even in all of BG1 and BG2, respectively. Personally I think it makes sense for them to have something. Similarly, for the others, why shouldn't they have items just because it is possible to not fight them?

On the other hand, I can appreciate that it may not necessarily be fun to knowingly pass a good item by, just because the creature possessing the item isn't voluntarily throwing itself onto your sword.

In the end I think the best I can do is giving the player the ability to choose for him- or herself.

Since there is a reasonably well-defined theme in this case, maybe a randomisation option that removes characters you do not have to kill (Kirian, Sendai (BG1), Desreta&Vay-ya, Tellan, Vongoethe, etc) from the pool of locations (and their items from the item pool) would satisfy?

Hopefully this post isn't too old. I don't like it when things are randomized into optional fights that you can't get back to later. The Dritz fight is like this I think as an example. If you choose not to fight him it excludes you from possible items. I might be fine with it if only evil items were randomized into fights that are usually skipped by making a good aligned choice and vise versa.

Also, and this is probably more of a suggestion and may belong in the suggestion thread but it goes along with this. I think this mod should come packaged with an option/mod that allows you to return to Athkatla and other areas from ToB or after completing them because you can easily miss stuff. Yea, some people want the experience of missing a lot of stuff the first time around again, but other people just want to be surprised and at least have the option of finding stuff if they missed it.

Example:

Weidu

Install Return to explored areas?

1. Install Return to Athkatla and the mainland. (Alows you to return to the mainland from ToB)

Install Return to explored areas more?

1.. Install Return to Spellhold and surrounding areas? (Allows you to travel to these areas after completing them)

etc

Yes, v7 will feature an option to disable randomisation for optional fights. At some point, however, the user will need to customise Item Randomiser him- or herself to achieve whatever specialised selection he or she desires. Item Randomiser does not give any items to Drizzt or his cronies, however.

This one is more uncertain, however. I'll consider it, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to answer. I really like this mod which is why I want to give suggestions. I'm not saying it is bad just that more options would always be cool since everyone likes to play differently.

I'm sure you understand this but I just want to make sure of one detail concerning optional fights and what you consider to be optional fights. I would prefer there to be a few options in regard to this. I know you said that ultimately people need to custom it to there liking but I am hoping for some basic options that will work for most people. For me the biggest concern about optional fights are the ones that you can't return to later or aren't very obvious. For example the dragons are optional fights but they don't disappear and it is obvious that dragons would have good loot. Because of that in my opinion it would be bad to just remove loot from monsters as cool as dragons just because they are optional. Basically I don't like things randomized into optional non logical unapparent places or battles.

Sorry if your current system already does a lot of this.

So maybe like:

Weidu

1. Don't randomize loot into any optional battles

2. Randomize loot into optional battles but try to keep most of it on obvious or epic opponents.

3. Randomize loot as normal.

etc etc.

Again sorry if you already thought of that.
