Trying to get them all

Hello, I don't know if this is the right forum for this question, but hopefully it is and if not hopefully it can be moved to the right place. I just had a some questions. I'm playing baldurs gate trilogy and I was wondering what happens if I don't pick up certain characters such as jaheira, minsc, or viconia, or edwin, etc. Will this affect what happens when I transition from BG1 to BG2 in the trilogy or will the game assume that they were in my party? Also I want to try to play a game where Itry to maximize the npcs interaction (I have the BG1 NPC project) and I want to know what would be the best way to go about getting all the npcs in my party at one point, not just join up and then kick them out, but actually run through the game for example like I would wait until cloakwood before I filled my party with faldorn, eldoth, coran, and yeslick. I was wondering what would be the best order to acquire each NPC and what would the best way to go about it.
