Kulyok Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 (Installed: v6 conversion, Widescreen, IWD NPC for IWD-in-BG2). First, I'd just like to report that the conversion installed and loaded okay. Here are a few things I wasn't sure about, though: During the installation: saw a few "file not found" DOS messages in Russian in console window(after choosing BG2 path) - I assume it's okay? During the game loading: ToBEx console window opened next to the game window. I was a little freaked out, because during first two or three times only console window loaded(game window didn't), so I thought something was wrong. Now, though, everything loads together: I run BGMain.exe in IcewindTutu folder, the game loads, everything is fine. During HoW, returning to Wylfdene's camp from the Seer: I decided to try an old save(right after the Seer teleports you to the surface, BEFORE leaving for Barbarian camp), approached the worldmap point, went to the camp, and it was empty again - nobody on entrance. Should I start a new HoW game with v6 to check it out for sure? What if the bug is intermittent(happens in some games, but not in others)?
Dakk Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 My only feedback, yet, to the v6 is that I've learned what "concomitant" and "en passant" means. DavidW, enriching my vocabulary - one version at the time.

Here are a few things I wasn't sure about, though: During the installation: saw a few "file not found" DOS messages in Russian in console window(after choosing BG2 path) - I assume it's okay? Yep. It's clearing out uneeded files; they weren't there in the first plcae. Cool, that's how it should work. (I don't know why the first 2-3 times didn't.) During HoW, returning to Wylfdene's camp from the Seer: I decided to try an old save(right after the Seer teleports you to the surface, BEFORE leaving for Barbarian camp), approached the worldmap point, went to the camp, and it was empty again - nobody on entrance. Should I start a new HoW game with v6 to check it out for sure? What if the bug is intermittent(happens in some games, but not in others)? The bug was probably either to do with problems with secondary death variables, or with hidden creatures; either way, it's quite likely that saved games are still broken. I never worked out what caused the original bug but I wasn't able to reproduce it on my pseudo-critical-path test of that section. ... bottom line: yes, I think I'll need to see this reproduced from a new game before concluding it's still a problem.
Kulyok Posted April 17, 2011 Author Posted April 17, 2011 Okay, started a new HoW game, and right away: 1) I cannot find the TotL quest giver guy in the tavern. The dwarf is there, but the TotL guy is not visible. EDIT: I confirmed this on a no-mods(no IWD NPC, only widescreen) install, new HoW game. 2) This is probably working as intended, but clashes a bit with my "intended": spells. On level 1, I can't find protection from petrification, on level 3 I can't find Melf's meteors(but there are spells called bloodlance and icelance), and maybe there are other cases, too. And I'd like to see it the way it was in BG2. I guess this complaint won't win me many friends, but I am afraid this is very important for me, because I play sorcerer 101% of the time and that's the best part of playing sorcerer - the comfortable routine, never choosing new spells(which is why I never install spell mods). This is IWD-in-BG2 engine, which is why I would love to see BG2 spells exactly "as it was". (Mods may add basilisks and beholders, by the way, in case of "petrification isn't present in IWD"). I know it might be tiresome, and I would understand if some BG2 spells are technically impossible to recreate in IWD-in-BG2 engine. But if it's possible, then I would really have one out of two: a) have all BG2 spells in IWD-in-BG2 exactly as they were in BG2; b) have something else(IWD spells, mod spells, current spells whatever), but have a readily available fix/tweak component/mod which brings BG2 spells back. If there's such a component already, please, point me to it. Because I really want my melf's meteors.
DavidW Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Will check the missing dwarf. (Elapsed time before first bug, 13 hrs!) As for spells, have you installed the relevant component from ice-tutu-tweaks?
Kulyok Posted April 17, 2011 Author Posted April 17, 2011 Thank you for the spells tip! I didn't install tweaks before, as I couldn't find any documentation inside the mod. So, I tried the component, but it has its drawbacks: when creating a new (HoW) char with this component installed, I couldn't see Stoneskin and Vampiric touch(or Web, come to think of it; no protection from petrification either, but I guess a basilisk mod could add some scrolls), and there was no scroller to scroll and find these. So that sounds like an unfair tradeoff. I guess if those IWD spells were out, then Stoneskin would be in. Maybe another "restore BG2 spells, kill IWD spells" component? Anyway, I'll do a HoW run and post my findings.
DavidW Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Thank you for the spells tip! I didn't install tweaks before, as I couldn't find any documentation inside the mod. Sorry, definitely not at the readme-writing stage, but the component names should be fairly self-explanatory. That's interesting - it ought to be enabled by ToBEx but it looks like it's not working for some reason (GUI, maybe). I had a pre-ToBEx version I'll revert to. Maybe another "restore BG2 spells, kill IWD spells" component? That's definitely into mod territory, not core-converter-plus-tweaks, as it means altering the spells and scripts of NPCs. Anyway, I'll do a HoW run and post my findings. Thanks. Usual caveats apply: I'm still expecting lots of problems.
DavidW Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 OK, as for the missing TotLM questgiver, try this: do SetGlobal("9101_SPAWN_HOBART","GLOBAL",1) at the console.
janczo Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 There are any chance tha v6 conversion will work with Baldurs gate trilogy?
DavidW Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 There are any chance tha v6 conversion will work with Baldurs gate trilogy? The question doesn't really make sense. This is IWD in the BG2 engine - no actual BG2 content is present. (Install on top of BGT and it'll probably work, but the actual content of BGT will be erased.)
grogerson Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 As usual, I'm a little behind at the start. Just installed and started with a new character. Aside from having to tell my antivirus to let ToBExLoader alone, I had the install stop 17 (seventeen) times due to faults with the core animation converter. I know. Old story with me. Unfortunately the only place I see it is in the DOS window, not any debug or error file. I'll begin play later this week. Want to finish my current run through BG1 for a thorough check of some new BG1 Tweaks components and I'm currently in the Candlekeep catacombs...

Actually, the new version has multiple attempts, so it might work after all. There is an error file but I don't recall where it lives (at work atm).
Guest Sterling Archer Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Hello I didnt finnish my last run, but trying again. I've installed quite a few times now: Tips! Create a root folder for a installation (i get sound&animation errors when i install to "program files (x86)\iwdv6") But i have found another problem :weapon descriptions are all over the place. Happens mostly to swords and morning stars so far. The one i startet playing with have a bunch of blank descriptions. some have parts of some books, some start in the middle of some other weapons description. The new installation have a bunch of <Invalid Strref 108729> the number seems to vary (108xxx). others have strings like "Barbarian Shaman's Home" while lots have wrong weapon described Let me know if there are some files i should mail you. Will try some more installations tomorrow. yes your tweakpack is installed, no other mods anywhere regards
Guest Sterling archer Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Ok this is what i've found: During the install, some of the descritions are left blank. When installing the fixpack: the required element does not fix this, but the problem seems that the profience altering scrip(s?) is also altering descriptions. some blanks are filled, some are erased, and some gets swapped with something else. Checked with inf engine and shadow keeper and in game any tips on my end?
