Changing IWD from English to French language?

Hello. Please forgive me if this is not the right place to post this.

 

I bought IWD from GoG.com today thinking that HoW would include a French language option. I was mistaken, as this is not the case for the local English version of the game.

 

I'd like to know if there's any way to change the game's language from English to French? From what I can tell, it would actually be as easy as acquiring the French dialog file (for text) and the French voice files, and then overwriting them into my IWD folder. If that's the case, does anybody know where I can acquire the French language files? Or is there some other method of going about this?

The only way I know of to aquire the said files you are looking for , is to get yourself a copy or ask someone who has a french copy to pass them on to you .

But you better just get yourself a french copy all together . Can't you return the one you brought and exchange it for a french copy ?

 

You could try changing this in the ini. file :

 

[Local]

Language=German

Language25=English

 

To french , it worked for me on another game but I think it worked because the language was avaible . Just back up before trying anything

Beside that , I know that most mods have been translated to french , but I doubt they would change the whole game . And beyond that , I say look on Google maybe someone found something .

Thans a lot for the reply. I have been doing some google research and it actually does appear the only way for me is to get the European/French discs. Could be worse!

You can turn your IWD edition in French by replacing the dialog.tlk with a dialog.tlk / dialogF.tlk French set of files (for v1.42). The sounds will be still in English, but the text will be French.

V1.42 corresponds to the free expansion, Trials of the Luremaster. The french version is available here.

This expansion will overwrite dialog.tlk / dialogF.tlk files, so all the game will switch to French. But only the texts, all sound will remain in English. I don't know any link to download the sounds.
