BG2 Tweak Pack - Cult of The Eyeless quest startup error!

Hello, hello!

I recently decided to start playing BG2 again and I've been at it for quite awhile now and I've done a ton of quests (killed firkraag, saved de'arnise hold etc) but so far I had not really been in the temple district. I figured it was about time to go there so I did. I heard Gaals speech and then when one of those priests from Helm, Talos or whatever was supposed to approach me they never did.

High Mornmaster Arval stands just where Gaal held his speech but if I try and talk to him with my main PC I get the "this character has nothing to say to you" message. If I speak with him through one of my followers he responds and tells me he will only speak to the true leader of my group.

I googled this issue and came upon this thread: http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/topic,12203.5/wap2.html

The guy with the some problem as me solved it by removing the multiple stronghold mod and summoned the priest through the console and could continue his quest. I tried the same and when I had removed the multi-stronghold mod and summoned the priest he spoke with me and I got the journal entry and everything. The priest wants me to come to the temple of helm (or talos etc (I tried summoning them all)) to talk with him further once I'm there but once I go there I yet again get the "this character has nothing to say..." and if I try to summon him once more it still won't work.

So right now I'm completely stuck here and I really don't want to have to miss out on Kheldon and the cult of the eyeless quest (that's a lot of xp!)

I'm playing a Male Half-Elf fighter/mage that is Chaotic Good if that helps any and the mods I have installed are:

bg2 tweaks

bg2 fix pack

npc romance flirt pack

banter pack

widescreen mod

dungeon begone

ToB is installed and fully patched.

Thank you for reading and any help is very welcomed!

If you are running a CG character, the multi-strongholds tweak is supposed to treat you like a cleric and summon Mornmaster Arval, because LG, NG, and CG clerics get Lathander in the vanilla game. Mornmaster Arval is supposed to have something to say to you, however.

Please post the contents of your weidu.log. It's a small file in your game directory which you can open with a text editor. I suspect installation order may have something to do with this issue.

I feel dumb asking but what's a CG character?

CG=Chaotic Good.

Oh, dear. According to your weidu.log, you don't have Multi-Strongholds installed. But that's right. You said you were trying different things, uninstalling and reinstalling that component to see if the issue would fix itself on its own.

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but your installation order is a bit... suboptimal. With the Fixpack so late in the installation, I'm surprised it works at all. If I were building an installation with your mods, I would have done it:

Widescreen Mod (Yes, yes, I know it doesn't have to go first, but your monitor's resolution is the one thing that will never change)

BG2 Fixpack

Dungeon-Be-Gone

Banterpack

NPC Flirtpack

BG2 Tweaks

The BG2 Fixpack has to go as early in the installation as possible. I'm not sure, but this *may* be why you were having issues with Mornmaster Arval. Because I've been playing with something very like the installation listed above for years and have never had any issues. With that, anyway.

Aha! Yes I have it un-installed right now but that didn't change anything.

Can I just un-install all of them and re-install them in the order you described or would that mess things up?

Posted

I'm afraid that it would mess things up, at least for your present save. In the future, you would be unlikely to run into the error you have now, but the information stored in your saved game expects the mods to be installed in a certain way and changing that order will mess things up even further.

That said, I anticipate a very rocky playthrough, given your current order. If you aren't too far along in the game, I would recommend starting with a clean installation (instructions: http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/topic,17555.0.html ), installing the mods you want to install in the order I listed, and beginning a new game.

Wow that is a huge bummer. I've put in a lot of hours already. I guess it's still best to start over. It's not like I haven't played through it all a hundred times already :p

Thanks for the quick and great help by the way!

Does this look alright? I really wouldn't want to have to suffer this again.

Except that you forgot the Widescreen mod...

I decided not to use it :p I prefer it in 1024x768 anyways.

Thanks for the help again guys <3

No widescreen-mod, oh the horror! :O

I thought BG2 played in 800x600 btw?

You can play in 1024x768 (unsupported mode) just by selecting it in the bgconfig :)

I'm so used to playing in that resolution that a larger one just felt weird to me.

I'm sorry for ressurecting this thread but I just got a new monitor and now my 1024x768 resolution that I've always been running BG2 isn't stretching across the entire screen but instead just takes up a 1024x768 space in the center of my screen. I figured I'd try asking you guys if you have any idea how to get it to stretch over the screen?

Posted

Would you be upset if I suggested the *cough* Widescreen mod?

Well I don't want to play in a higher resolution but if you think the widescreen mod would stretch out the 1024x768 resolution I guess I should give that a try.
