Aureol
I have successfully installed a few mods, but some of them won't work (the game won't load; rather, the icon bounces infinitely, with the application "not responding"). These mods so far are BG2 Fixpack v.9 (both Windows and Mac versions) and BG2 Tweaks. I installed them in this order: Mac ToB patch Ascension BG2 Fixpack (wouldn't work; skipped later) Oversight Unfinished Business Alternatives BG2 Tweaks (Mac version wouldn't work; might try Windows version) Any reason why? Do I need to share more info? Also, unrelated issue, but I'm trying to play an (unmodded) game with someone, but the TCP/IP option doesn't work, and Gameranger crashes whenever I try to play BG2 on it. I would prefer to resolve the Gameranger issue, but I'll take other multiplayer ideas instead. Any thoughts? Thanks for everything in advance! Link to comment
ericp07
Why not install BG2 Fixpack before any other mods? I've installed all those mods successfully on my PPC G4 Quicksilver, under Mac OS X 10.4.11, and they've behaved as they should. Would you mind giving more detail as to the failures you've experienced. The more detail you can supply, the easier it will be to determine the issues and hopefully solve them. For multiplayer, are you choosing "Connect manually"? Link to comment
Aureol
Thanks for the quick reply As for BG2 fixpack going first, I installed it, and the icon still just bounces up and down, and the application goes unresponsive (the game itself doesn't boot). Here's the WeiDU log if it helps at all: // Log of Currently Installed WeiDU Mods // The top of the file is the 'oldest' mod // ~TP2_File~ #language_number #component_number // [subcomponent Name -> ] Component Name [ : Version] ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #0 // BG2 Fixpack - Core Fixes: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #1001 // BG2 Fixpack - Game Text Update -> GTU Classic (from Baldurdash, by Kevin Dorner): v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #2 // Super Happy Fun Lucky Modder Pack: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #3 // BETA Core Fixes (please check the readme!): v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #100 // Party Gets XP for Sending Keldorn to Reconcile With Maria: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #101 // Improved Spell Animations: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #102 // Cromwell's Forging Actually Takes a Day: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #103 // Mixed-Use Dagger Fixes: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #104 // Ghreyfain's Holy Symbol Fixes: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #106 // Giants Receive Penalties When Attacking Halflings, Dwarves, and Gnomes: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #107 // Remove Dual-Classing Restriction from Archers and Stalkers: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #108 // Remove Second Attribute Bonus for Evil Path in Wrath Hell Trial: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #109 // Corrected Summoned Demon Behavior: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #110 // Additional Script Fixes: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #111 // Bard Song Fixes: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #112 // Wizard Slayers Cause Miscast Magic on Ranged Attacks: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #113 // Additional Alignment Fixes: v9.01 ~BG2FIXPACK/SETUP-BG2FIXPACK.TP2~ #0 #114 // Change Free Action to Protect Against Stun: v9.01 Then multiplayer, I tried Connect Manually, set up a game, but the other person was unable to join (I believe the game eventually locked up), and with Gameranger the game starts (screen goes black) but immediately quits. ericp07
Does the game run without any mods installed? Link to comment
Aureol
Well, the game does work without mods, and actually turns out the mod does work with the game; it's just that it takes a significant amount of time (roughly 2-3 minutes) to load, so I thought it was failing me. It'd be nice to fix the 2-3 minute wait, but at least the game works, so I can't complain. So, I'm gonna go through all those mods again and see if I can wait a little longer, then have it work. I will report later. EDIT: As for my computer system, I am using Mac OS X Ver. 10.6.8, not sure what else to say. EDIT 2: Now I am having difficulty with SCSII. It is having a few errors. In the manual install, it says: Installing [initialise mod (all other components require this)] Copying and patching 1 file ... Copying and patching 1 file ... Appending to files ... Wisp
You are probably using an older version of WeiDU. The version number is printed at the top of the debug file and the current version is 23100. It can be downloaded here, should you need it. Link to comment
Aureol
That worked as well, thank you very much! All my mods appear to be in working order, but now the game takes at least 4 minutes to load (I timed it). Also, both in the modded and clean versions the game lags bad. I can't name all the situations, but when characters move in-game and in spell selection during character creation are two instances. I fiddled with turning on/off 3D acceleration, but otherwise I wouldn't know what to try. The weird thing is, the Windows version I had worked on this computer fine, mods and all (but I got sick of the instability of Wine on Mac, so I got a Mac version). What can I do for this? hook71
Try biffing your installation. Link to comment
Aureol
Thank you very much, biffing completely removed the ridiculous wait! But I am still having issues with in-game lag and mouse lag, as well as saving stalls (which sometimes lock up the game). But this was on the unmodded version too, so it's not any mod. I have 3D acceleration off; anything else? Link to comment
ericp07
We just have to live with the long loading times, when we install several mods (I've been trying to get an install of over 130 mods to work for years, but no luck so far in a successful installation where everything works together). You'll probably see the longest load times when you load a saved game. Biffing might be a time-saver, but it can also cause issues of its own (like not being able to troubleshoot as thoroughly and successfully). Run the game with Party AI turned off as much as possible. The lags are mostly various scripts being run, and there's no way to speed that up, to my knowledge. You can also test some of the graphics options and other settings in BGConfig, and check your video card's settings. Link to comment
Aureol
That's unfortunate. Thanks though! You all have been so helpful! Lastly, anyone know how to get multiplayer to work on Mac? I finally got Gameranger to not crash on us, so the game boots properly through Gameranger, but we still fail to connect. Any tips? Link to comment
ericp07
You might need to set up a VPN with your other player(s) for a multiplayer game. Link to comment
