Antimagic Attacks not working against invisible mages?

Hey hoping I can get some help with this, without resorting to a complete start over. I started a new BGII on my new windows 7 lap top. I've done some moderate mod installation on previous installs without to many issues, so I decided to really push it and do a megamod installation. I followed the advice found here: http://www.shsforums.net/files/file/534-big-world-v11-english/ I didn't bother with some of the things that classically define megamod installation (no shadows over soubar, darkest day etc), I was really just looking for some advice on installation order of some potentially conflicting or overwritting mods. I didn't want a crazy challenge so I lowered SCS II mage levels. My weidu is below...

Some various issues I've encountered but have been able to deal with, I've had a few crashes here and there, but nothing major. I was never able to get SCSII improved fighters working, I couldn;t get the big Screen mod working when installed at the end of the installation, Lost amber after she went to ymirrts (crash on entry), Kelseys romance got deleted (was able to manually restart it through shadow keeper), and Pierce Shield when found on a scroll is the original version, not SR's version. The one thing that's killing me is not being able to go after invis mages who have Spell immunity div up. There's a conflict somewhere, I just can't figure out what caused it. Anyone have any thoughts? I'll start over with a clean install if need be, but I'd prefer to avoid it if possible. I'd like to get through ascension... I'm happy to do any file modifying if I can get some instructions on what exactly to do.

Thanks in advance.

Mmm...I don't see nothing particulalry wrong in your install order (though I'm really not expert when it comes to mega-mod like installs, as I tend to play and reccomend very few mods), except one thing: Kelsey. I do remember Kelsey messing with both a bunch of spells and spells.ids (not sure if it was ever updated to not mess anymore), and thus it is reccomended to install it very early. Anyway, if you say some mod replaced SR's Pierce Shield (I guess you noticed it because of the description?) I suggest you to do a changelog check on such itm/spl to see which mods alter it and in which order.

One more thing, and it may be the cause of PS being replaced, isn't SCS supposed to skip installing its "Antimagic attacks penetrate improved invisibility -> Antimagic spells remain single-target, but affect the target creature whether or not it is invisible (default option): v20" component when SR is detected? I thought it did!

The latest version of SCSII (v21) does, but the OP has installed v20, which doesn't.

Thanks Demi and David, I've been following both of your works for a long time, IR,SR, wheels, and SCS were major reasons why I wanted to play again. I think u might be right about Kelsey, he has a very strange install order, very piecemeal like quest pack and a few others. I could facepalm because I swore I installed the latest version of SCS II just for that reason. Do either of you see a fix, or is my installed screwed? Mages are gonna be impossible with II/SI Div with no way to target with antimagic attacks. I don't even think I can reinstall SR because of the biffing, and I think I will end up with atweaks problems. I guess I gotta figure out how to get Kelsey in without overwriting SR. At this point should I hold off for version 4 of SR or is that a while away?

Link to comment

I don't think Kelsey can be the cause of a problem with the antimagic spells. It's more likely to be caused by installing SCSII's antimagic component over SR's.

In principle, I'd say reinstall SCSII (preferably v21), or at least that component. But it's fairly deep in your install order, so I can see why you might prefer not to.

If you want to live dangerously, open up scsii/backup/2019 and copy all the .SPL files you find into your override folder. (This will void your warranty :) )

Incidentally, Refinements should ideally be before SCSII, not after. (No disastrous problems the other way around, but it means that SCSII won't use Refinements HLAs.)

I think Kelsey caused the overwrite of the pierce shield spell, but what ever did it, over wrote all instances of pierce shield. Got around it with shadowkeeper. I haven't had much luck in the past with reinstalling SCS midway through a game, I get lots of errors and looping. What exactly does moving all the .SPL files into the override do? And should I use the v.20 or v.21 files? Does this basically restore the old style anti magic spells to hit an area? The last scs I played v 10 I think did that.

Link to comment

The way WEIDU works (more or less) is that when it changes a file, it puts a copy of the unchanged file into a backup folder. Then if you uninstall a mod component, the contents of the backup folder for that component get copied back over. So if you just manually dump those files into the override, you should basically restore the spells to their pre-SCS state, which I think is whatever state SR left them in. If the problem you're having is caused by your having installed both SR and SCS versions of antimagic-pierces-invisibility, then this should solve it. (This is NOT a recommended way to uninstall in normal circumstances, for obvious reasons!)

As for v20 vs v21, you have to use the files in the version of SCSII actually on your system now - neither v21 nor a new copy of v20 will have those files, as they're created when you install SCSII to start with.

Link to comment

So going by that, putting the backed up .SPL files into the override will restore them to SR versions (based on my wiiedu log from what I can tell), and should overwrite component 19 in SCSII and use SR's anti magic properties? Maybe this is off topic but how exactly are the two different?

Link to comment

I think I'm fracked. There are no .spl files in the SCSII folder, the only thing that comes close are are named SPWI****.baf, and on top of that, I Biffed the override folder after I completed the installation, so even if i did find and copy the .spl files, I'm not sure the game would register the overridden files. Ugh..just got into chapter six...between that and the install process thats a lot of time down the tubes..

Link to comment

O.k..I do have those files. They are the same files that are in my backup folder. For some reason they do not have .spl behind them. I'll give it a go and see what happens from the SCSII backup folder. Fortunetly, my crew is about to be ambushed by a high level drow wizard who has been routinely casting II/SI Div and some other spell protection stuff. So I should find out pretty quickly if it works.

Link to comment

O.k. I think it worked. The anti magic spells seemed to have reverted back to the original descriptions. I still cannot target invisible creatures with pierce magic, KWW, pierce shield. I can however hit them with Spell thrust (in the event of SI div), or ruby ray. Does this seem like correct behavior? To be honest, I'm glad I lowered the mage levels in the .ini file. At low levels I don't know if there would be a way to kill off enough spell protections on an II/SI mage limited to castings of Spell thrust and RR. At anyrate, it's playable again so I can progress. Thank you very much David, I was really not looking forward to doing another install.

Link to comment

I'm quite late, so I'll just say that Kelsey uses the oldest DS version, which doesn't affect spell removals. It was only added erroneously in BP's/Cam's version.

It does. The first three spells have other effects in addition to the actual spell protection removal, while Spell Thrust, Ruby Ray and Spell Strike need something special to stand out on their own.
