Display area cut off on right and bottom sides!

Hi,

I have tried installing the latest version of the widescreen mod to the 2 CD edition of Planescape Torment. I have a nVidia Geforce 770 with the latest drivers. My monitor has a native resolution of 1920 x 1200.

When I input my native resolution into the widescreen configuration tool (I have also tried 1920 x 1080) and start the game, it seems that I do not see the whole display area. Rather, I only see the upper left quadrant. Note that I am not merely referring to some of the interface elements, which I understand are not scaled unless the GUI mod is installed, but even in the game itself. I have attached pics.

Any help would be appreciated.

You probably need to disable the nVidia cards auto display scaling(ATi reference... meh) procedure. Or go without the Widescreen mod as it's could be already in 1920x1080(the lower picture is that exactly a 1/4th of that).

Thanks for the reply, but this did not resolve the problem.

I have disabled the nVidia auto display scaling but no luck.

I am not sure what you mean by "go without the Widescreen mod". If I uninstall that, I am back to 640*480.

EDIT: I rather believe that the widescreen mod simply isn't rendering the bottom and right part of the screen properly.

Could you open up the torment.ini file in the game directory and copy paste the text to a post ? You open the file with Notepad or similar tools.

Sure. Here ya go.

EDIT:

Weird thing is that 1280×800 works. It is really weird that other resolutions, both lower and higher (downscaled) exhibit the problem.

"Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" is not nVidia specific.

My IE DDrawfix mod handles this issue by dropping a manifest marking the application as "high DPI aware" so Windows won't scale the game window.

When I put into my PST directory and run exe I get error:

Patch location not found

torment.exe -> torment.exe (copy)

I run in main PST folder with torment.exe

Does this mod fix the weird twitching of objects when I open a menu (widescreen + GUI mod installed)?

Also, does this fix the sluggish controls in the game? Even when I set iFPS to 40 the game "feels" like it's running at 15 FPS.

EDIT: also, aqrit, do you have a way to increase the text scrolling speed inside the dialogue window?

>> Patch location not found

that's not good... is it already installed or perhaps pst-ddrawfix, or manually patched...?

>> Does this mod fix the weird twitching of objects when I open a menu

"Force DirectDraw Emulation" options does, IIRC

hopefully?

>> EDIT: also, aqrit, do you have a way to increase the text scrolling speed inside the dialogue window?

no. I see no need for this... maybe when/if you get the game running faster this won't be needed?

EDIT: ... Windows 8 has major speed issues 16-bit color games.

see this thread... for thoughts on getting Torment running at a decent speed.

EDIT2: As long as I'm here make sure you're using the *fixed* version of the WideScreen mod for Torment.

While I was not able to fix my problems with the IE DDrawfix, I was able to fix the problems with your ddwrapper utility. I put the ddwrapper files in my main Torment folder, and then I opened the aqrit.ini with notepad and changed:

ForceDirectDrawEmulation = 1

NoVideoMemory = 1

This fixes the sluggish performance in Windows 8.

I am not sure how to install the fixed version of the widescreen mod.

I am not sure how to install the fixed version of the widescreen mod.

Aqrit says that a few post after...

copy the widescreen folder to your Toment folder

(not the widescreen-master folder)

so to pick a file at random...

widescreen-master.zip\widescreen-master\widescreen\core.tpa

would become something like:

C:\games\torment\widescreen\core.tpa.

get a copy of weidu.exe http://www.weidu.org/main.html#weidu

place weidu.exe in your torment folder

rename weidu.exe to setup-widescreen.exe

run setup-widescreen.exe

There seems to be problems moving saved games from old version of the widescreen to the new...

Make sure you have a backup of any saved games
