Not yet. I'm just going  to try SoB by itself on BGEE first  and see if there's anything obvious about Xzar and Monty.

EDIT - okay yeah need the weidu.log. When I install this on its own Xzar and Monty do not get any rando pips in dual-wielding, or anything else.

Monty DOES get his bonus  halfling pips, which is cool! Suddenly your 1st-level game-intro companion has 3 pips in slings! He's like a halfling version of Coran.

Also I just noticed a bug with the 'Reset Proficiencies' tome, but that is unrelated to whatever you're seeing. Fixing that one now.

EDIT 2 - fixed. Unfortunately when you use the 'reset proficiencies' tome it removes two of those three pips in slings, leaving only the one for being a halfling. And since the new system only allows anyone (even warriors) to have one pip at 1st level, and Monty already has one pip for being a halfling, he cannot add any more with the reset dialogue, and thus only have one pip in slings if you use the tome on him. Where, by contrast, if you make your own halfling F/T, you can put one pip in slings at 1st level and then the halfling bonus kicks in after that, bumping you to two pips.

So Montaron at 1st level can either have one extra pip in slings, or one fewer pip in slings. Not ideal. But then again you get another pip immediately at 2nd level, which comes pretty quick. So it's not a long-term problem. And for that trade-off you get eight pips to spend on a F/T, so when I  re-spec'd his proficiencies he  ended up with:

  • + Short sword
  • + Dagger
  • + Club
  • + Sling
  • + SWS
  • + Dodge
  • + Ranged Accuracy
  • + Weapon Speed
  • + Dirty Fighting
  • ++ Hurled Weapons

... that's 11 pips in total, and a very well-rounded set of 1st-level combat skills. I'm liking this system!

@Quester I see nothing problematic in that weidu.log, and I looked at your savegame and Xzar & Monty do not actually have any pips in  dual-wielding. From what I could tell their proficiencies seem to be  totally correct. So maybe it's a display bug with your record screen? Something related to a UI mod, or something?

The only weird thing I noticed was, they have an effect that looked unlike all the other effects, in that it had a 'signature' where most effects do not. Was "X-BI" or something like that. It shows as an opcode 0 AC adjustment, but given that it looked weird in NI, I couldn't say for sure what it is actually doing to the .CREs. Whatever it is, it's not form one of my mods, so I don't have a good basis of knowledge to try and troubleshoot it...

I agree, it's a very nice system that leads to a lot of customisability and different ways to develop characters. I love it.

When first selecting profs, Khalid can choose the vanilla Sword & Shield style (but not Shield-Fighting from your revised weapon styles). The latter is choosable only when later using the "Advance Proficiencies" button:

I mean, it makes some sense, in that the UI expects those stats to have values of 1-5, when the stat values actually go up past 2,000,000,000. And this mod uses some of those higher values. 

Also, the UI doesn’t expect proficiencies like 108/110/124/127 to be used, so it may not omit code to handle them properly. 

I don’t know specifically how anything like that could result in the display showing you stat 114 (dual-wielding)… but do understand how the display could be generally wonky.

It's not exactly that, but Combat Skills adds a row to weapprof.2da, which breaks an assumption made by the styles component. So the renaming  bit is subject to an off-by-one error and it calls the "Thrown Weapons" "Yeeting Things" skill "Two-Hand Style," and the first three styles are named wrong, and then two-weapon style is correct again.

I need to make the Styles component's text patching  a bit more  sophisticated. New version coming soon  to fix this.

...Aaand, another quick update to v6.2.8 with some under-the-hood improvements in YARAS - added a bunch of mod-added armors to the mnaually-constructed lists setting their enchantment because the mods don't use conventions that let YARAS auto-detect it. (Tsk!) also moved those lists into the configuration file so they are easier to add more if/when it becomes necessary.

Also  changed the configuration file back from "override/YARAS.ini"  to  "override/d5_YARAS.ini" - sorry for the mix-up there, but someone does use a "ya" modder prefix and I could just imagine what happens when that modder decides to make some kind of configurable version of Ras the Dancing Sword.

Okay I think that's it, for real. I was going to try to add a concentration checks system that  does an end-run around the game's engine's spell-interruption system, but it looks like that will be impossible. :(  (Well okay I have one lst thing to test, but my hopes are not high.) So over to make more structural changes to Faiths & Powers, then I'm done.

So, questions regarding mod-compatibility because I've out for a month:

 - Does the 6.X versions still have the "only touch weapon styles" component option and does it only touch that 4, or did you folded additional pseudo-styles into that component?
 - If the first answer is yes, does the only-weapon-styles component affect pip distribution?

I've managed to successfully use Scales's weapon styles with Skills and Abilities' proficiency system before and I'd like to know if that combo is still possible or I need to freeze Scales on 5.40 then backport the 6.2.8 commit.

Neither proficiency overhaul option (comp 122/123) touches the four original weapon styles in version 6.x. You can mix and match SoB proficiencies/combat skills with S&A styles, or S&A proficiencies with SoB styles.

Note, maybe not relevant to you if you don't install comp 123, but I am now recommending this be installed after SCS.
