strange dialogue lines spoken by enemies

Recommended Posts

I apologize in advance, because I am not 100% sure that it is SCS causing this, or just wrong mod installation, however SCS is the biggest mod I have installed. Basically, every once in a while, enemies will blurt out strange dialogue lines, indicating that the dialogue file got messed up. The only mods I haven't used before are BG2 fixpack and RR (I have only the Chosen encounter installed). I have used Ascension, Valen, Solaufein and Tactics together with older versions of SCS with no problems before. I'm a bit at loss as to what could be causing this bug.

This is an example from the improved illyich encounter (listed as compatible with SCS), but the same bug appeared with Dace in Asylum after he was killed, though his dialogue line was different:

I'm playing on a completely fresh BG2 installation (GOG version), no mods have been uninstalled and the widescreen mod has been re-installed once to change the resolution:

AS usual, my first question: did you play with an older savegame (from a different mod installation)?

Since you mentioned Dace: I had a similar problem in my NPC mod (Ajantis) where the reason were leftovers from dialogue assignments in the cre file (which I thought was empty). If it's only mod added creatures having this problem maybe it's something like that.

No, this was a new game, but with an imported character (from an old unmodded BG1 playthrough, I'm not sure if this could cause problems). I have decided to reinstall the game anyway, since it occurred to me that my antivirus complained once during the installation of RR, so it's possible something went wrong during installation.

I think SCS modifies Improved Illyich a bit. After reinstalling BG2 with just Ascension, BG2 Fixpack and Tactics, I've started the game with a new character and noticed that in some place you get duergar patrols (part of the tactics mod), but in some places the good old goblins remain. Yet after installing SCS on top of it and staring a new save, one goblin group got replaced by duergars, and one duergar patrol got changed (different group composition).

I'll try Tactics plus SCS, but without the "Increase difficulty of level-dependent monster groupings -> Maximum difficulty: v30" component and see what happens. (thankfully the gog version installs pretty quickly :D)

Hint: Make a clean, patched install in one place. Then copy the whole BG Main folder someplace else and use this version for modding etc. This way, you keep the clean install. You can also have several, differently modded versions of BG at the same time this way. EDIT: you'd have to edit the bgmain.ini with the changed path, of course.

Ouh yeah. This is cause the Tactics is the BG2:ToB Tactics, which is not entirely compatible with the BG2EE game, as the string references are not random, but far off field. As in, they refer to the ToB dialog.tlk, and not the EEs file.

Perhaps we should make a mod to randomize strings references, for those who want a truly ... unique ... experience.

It's not a bug, it's a feature! :-)

You know, you are both crazy. Good thing I am not alone with that fact. :devlook:
