Regarding the summoning limit

We want to preserve existing behavior as much as possible, including retaining the summoning limit at 5. It's a bug that Wish and Limited Wish do not work when the summoning limit is reached.

Changing the summoning limit is a design decision best left to modders. Changing the GENDER of summoned creatures to something else is not an option because it might unintentionally break something.

What would it break ?

If the death spell etc have already taken into consideration. And the gender based sound effects. Yes, having 2000 summons might make the game lag a bit ... but, by the time you get to 2000th summon, some of the spells should be quite close towards their ending. Aka that's a balance thing too.

Now, of course this won't change the non-EE moding at all, as it already has the summon cap unlimited if you install the said mod, except that if you want to include the same thing into more mods, the option is free for use(and you really should use the same flag if you intend to have it as a feature). And in the EE games, one don't need to be change the gender to make it "unlimited", as they can just edit the summlimt.2da ..

The other thing to remind oneself at this is of course, to not even try to make the summons any where near those levels where the Player Characters are... as a 5th level mage summoning 3x 4th level fighters is kinda OP, or even one. Same goes for a 18th level mage summoning a demon that has 230 Hitpoints and damage resistances. Looking at the Spell Revision here. How many is plenty... well around a 100 for a hostile. A friendly can do with ~60. Why... cause that's about as much damage the mage can relatively easily expect to do in one round(at most).

Hope no one will mind if I dig up my own old thread. Does anybody know if Beamdog has ever fixed the bug #27834 filed a few years ago based on research in this thread? Apparently, they've gotten rid of their old redmine-based ticketing system, so I'm not sure where to look it up now.
