Another variation:

 

The real father heard about some great treasure somewhere and he ran off to get it so that the girl's parents would feel better about letting him marry the girl, seeing as how he would have a bunch of cash. He doesn't even know she's pregnant. She fingers Garrick in order to buy time until he returns, since if she told the truth it might jeapordize their chances of getting married.

 

In the meantime though her parents are trying to force her into a marriage with some guy she can't stand, and if the guy she loves doesn't return soon, it will be too late. Garrick and the party have to track him down and let him know what's happening but when they find him, he's run into some difficulty with some monsters. They have to rescue him first before they can send him on his way.
