PetrusOctavianus
For some reason enemies do double damage in meele even though I play using Core Rules. I've triple checked that it is Core Rules (Difficulty Level=3), and the behaviour of SCS's Smarter Mages and Priests follow Core Rules difficulty. I tried uninstalling SCS, both because it consumes 90% of the install time of BWS, and to rule it out, and the damage reverted to normal. I'm not sure if SCS is really to blame, though, or if there is some weird synergic effect between mods, since I've never had the problems before with SCS+TuTu. I found a way to fix it, by editing the DIFFMOD.2DA so that under Core Rules enemies do 50% less damage, so no longer 11-12 damage from lowly Kobolds and Hobgolblins, or 20-25 damage from Ogres. My mod list already makes the game hard enough, and I detest HP and damage bloating. Anyway, any idea what causes the double damage? How do mods do it without editing DIFFMOD.2DA? // Log of Currently Installed WeiDU Mods // The top of the file is the 'oldest' mod // ~TP2_File~ #language_number #component_number // [Subcomponent Name -> ] Component Name [ : Version] ~SETUP-WEIDU.TP2~ #0 #0 // 24200 ~SETUP-BWS.TP2~ #0 #0 // Expert Component In Selection: refinements(+) ~SETUP-BWS.TP2~ #0 #1 // 20161130 - PetrusOctavianus
For the record, I'm using BGT (tried EE and was less than impressed). Quote Link to comment
Jarno Mikkola
What kind of weapon do you equip ? Aka it might be that your char is attacked by melee weapon while it wears a ranged weapon, there's guaranteed to hit and damage bonus of +4 from that. And if they crit... it will be a lots. There was the bigg mod that probably added and altered the diffmod.2da originally, the tobex might have taken it's place... Make a new .txt file in your game folder and run it with this command line: mkdir change-log WeiDU.exe --log nul --change-log diffmod.2da >change-log/change-log.txt --out change-log pause And after running it push the Enter to exit the paused state and open the folder it made and see the .txt if there's entry in the log, and perhaps copy paste the text to a post. It will not show the tobex, cause it adds the file, but any that change it after copying will show up. Also there's multiple mods that alter the stat benefits, and there's multiple enemies that can take advantage from 10-16 STR that were not there if the stat table was the original. PetrusOctavianus
I's pretty sure it's not due to missile weapons equipped or crits. I did a test on this, since it didn't sound right. There's no guaranteed hit on a character using a ranged weapon, nor a +4 damage. There's only a +4 bonus to THAC0, which is what the manual says IIRC. Quote Link to comment

I didn't say it's a "guaranteed to hit", I said "guaranteed bonus" to it and damage. Quote Link to comment

PetrusOctavianus
Did some more testing, and it seems the damage bonus is actually +25% +50%. So low level enemies (hobs, kobolds, dogs) do up to 12 damage instead of 1-8. And it has nothing to do with having missile weapons equipped. I still have no idea of the how and why, though. They, goblins won't ever do 1-8 damage with melee weapons, they can have STR of 18/100, so thinking that they get 1-8, is not the reality. Also, multiple mods influence the .cre's, they can also get the proficiency bonuses onto their weapons, which by the by also give them +2 to damage. That should be 5-10(+2 from STR bonus, and they use short sword, +2 from profs) and in critical hits that's up to 20. Now, I don't have example present on front of me, as I don't have the SCS installed... but that mod adds proficiencies, so the encounters aren't a joke. Actually, goblins are actually in a swarm, a very tough enemy to hold back ... without fireballs etc crowd control elements. That's not +50%... it's just natural elements the enemies are armed with. PetrusOctavianus
Interesting theory, but I don't understand you comments about the Goblins. Why should they they have the STR of an Ogre? All of the Goblins in my game have 9 STR. Equipped with Short Swords they should only do 1-6 damage. But I haven't met any Goblins yet, so I assume you mean Hobgoblins. They all have 9 STR, except the Elite, who have 18/10 STR, which gives +3 damage. Your theory doesn't explain why War Dogs and similar did up to 12 points damage, not to mention why I don't recall these enemies ever doing so much damage the previous times I've played the BG games. War Dogs and Wild Dogs are equipped with P1-8.ITM which as the name implies does 1-8 damage, and all the dogs have 9 STR, so no damage bonus. Nor do they have any proficiencies. It's quite obvious to me that there is some global (I hope, since then it's just a matter of using an edited DIFFMOD.2DA to counter it) modifier that makes enemies do +50% damage. But there's no mod that edits DIFFMOD.2DA... EDIT: Only melee damage is affected, not damage from arrows. So Hob Archers do 1-6 damage, while regular Hobs with Swords and 9 STR do up to 12 damage. subtledoctor
(Whew, thought it might be my mod for a minute, but you don't have the component installed that I thought it would be.) Actually, not that I think of it: one of my mod's components sets the primary stat of enemy NPCs to 17 if it is below 17. It's based on class. So, for instance, a goblin fighter would get a 17 STR, and an ogre would keep its 18/00. While a goblin shaman might get a 17 WIS. You do not have that component installed... but it's possible SCS does something similar. As well it should. The original game devs were lazy, giving straight 9's to lots of creatures. If the player gets the benefit of stat bonuses, why shouldn't NPCs? Edited October 31, 2017 by subtledoctor Quote Link to comment

There's only a +4 bonus to THAC0, which is what the manual says IIRC. Melee attacks against targets without melee weapon equipped receive +4 thaco/damage bonus. If I were to hazard a guess, you're playing as monk and for some reason his fists don't function as melee weapons. Honestly, I don't remember if it was supposed to be like that in vanilla. Jarno Mikkola
If I were to hazard a guess.... Honestly, I don't remember if it was supposed to be like that in vanilla. It's not, and in the vanilla they never inflicted that bonus on the enemy. The monk fist item is the mfist*.itm's where the * is a number, if it were the case PetrusOctavianus was using a monk. Of course he was insisting it's all the enemies against any of his party members... or that's assumed fact from not clerifying the case, just stating "And it has nothing to do with having missile weapons equipped.". And I don't see a mod that should even edit the fists... so. It's a good guess though. If I remember it correctly, the ToBEx externalizes the monks to be able to have different non-mfist*.itm's assigned as their fists, at least that's the case with the EE games. It's then set in the monkfist.2da file. Edited October 31, 2017 by Jarno Mikkola Quote Link to comment
