SCS updated to 32.4 (edit: now 32.5)

Recommended Posts

Improved NPC customisation and management: With this component installed, Imoen doesn't have enough XP to reactivate her thief powers in her dual class thief/mage. She has 40000 thief XP which puts her at level 7, and 60000 mage XP which also puts her at level 7. It is 90000 XP to the next mage level. This can't be intentional can it?

Addendum: on Mac this seems to happen consistently with Imoen. On Windows, I get bizarre behaviors (in one test, Imoen ended up with 3.375 million mage XP).

Separate question: I've been playing on hardcore mode, and I've noticed that a lot of mages didn't have stoneskin active (Rayic Gethras, Mekrath, Gaius, Tarnor's mage) which has earned them a staff of striking to the back. In earlier versions, I thought that every mage walked around stoneskinned permanently. The documentation says that in improved mode that they should be stoneskinned, so is there something wrong with my install?

Addendum: I just started a new game on Windows, C:MoveToArea('ar0701'), there Gaius walks around without stoneskin, though he gets it later through prebuffs. I was under the impression that most mages walked around with stoneskin even outside of prebuffs. I guess I can just refrain from backstabbing?

After completing BG1 (EET) Thieves' Guild quest (steal components for Halruaan Skyships), almost all rogues in the building (including Narlen Darkwalk, Black Lily and Alatos)  become hostile and attack me. Usually just the mage Resar should become hostile, but the others become hostile as well half a second later. Can this be caused by something SCS does to the AI and better calls for help?

After completing BG1 (EET) Thieves' Guild quest (steal components for Halruaan Skyships), almost all rogues in the building (including Narlen Darkwalk, Black Lily and Alatos)  become hostile and attack me. Usually just the mage Resar should become hostile, but the others become hostile as well half a second later. Can this be caused by something SCS does to the AI and better calls for help?

Whehter the thieves or only the mage turn hostile depends on your standing with the thives. (If you do the side quests they'll not turn on you.)

The dialogue should indicate that though..

Strange. As I see in their dialogs (ALTOS.dlg and RESAR.dlg), there are the following options:

1) You completed their sidequests, and Narlen just stabs Resar in a cutscene, everyone happy. This seems to be the only outcome depending on Narlen sidequests.

2) Resar becomes hostile, you kill Resar, Altos apologizes (which means you should be able to talk to him):

"So you've killed the Halruaan. Well, don't take it personally that I let him attack you; he was a powerful mage, and there was little I could do to dissuade him from killing you. Don't worry, you have full run of the guild—if you're able to kill a Halruaan mage, I'm sure there's little that my guild members can do to you. Again, accept my apologies for the entire incident."

In my case the second option only happens if I Ctrl-Y Resar immediately when he becomes hostile (when the game autopauses) and then the "hostility" doesn't spread through the building.

EDIT: I've just tested this in a clean BGEE installation and this works properly. Created new char, teleported to AR0153, talked to Altos, added the 3 items (MISC69, 70, 71), talked to Altos again, Resar attacks, all other NPCs do not become hostile. Resar is killed, talk to Altos, he apologizes that "there was little I could do"

So some mod is breaking that in my installation.

Tested on clean  BGEE + SCS. The issue I described above is caused by "Better calls for help" component. Without that component guild members stay neutral during the fight with Resar.

Don't know if it is SCS doing or it is intended or vanilla but in Watchers Keep Level 3 in the room behind the first talking demons with Cornugons, pit fiend and velithu (and the traps on each exit) my party got instantly greeted with several lightning bolts and fireballs. Later a meteor swarm was summoned by the pit fiend. Rather unfair in a dead magic zone.

The highest price to find Imoen should be 120 000. Now it is 1 120 000, which is too much.

@Merlin

To elaborate on this one: this indeed seems to be the case in dialogue, but when you actually come to Gaelan having 120k on your party, he lowers the price to 90k and you can proceed as usual.

I think there is a typo in related scripts, but it's kinda stealthy and I can't point it out just by glance. For now if you want to fix this, you can use NearInfinity to edit Gaelan's dialogue (GAELAN.DLG, I think there are 5 entries in total, labeled as State 26, State 30, State 33, Response 59 and Response 83 if I'm not mistaken), then edit string table (press ctrl-s inside NearInfinity) at strref 34187. Just tested it, seems to be working.

NB: DON'T try to edit your dialog.tlk using Notepad++ or like, the game reacts funny to this.

edit: I saw from your profile that you're playing EE. There might be some discrepancies between EE and BGT references. In any case, you can probably check the entry number you need inside AR0311.BCS.

Tagging @DavidW for good measure.

This is an interesting tradeoff between tactics and aesthetics. Tactically, you’re absolutely right that every wizard should have Stoneskin precast immediately, but aesthetically it means that every wizard - even ones who are non hostile and mostly just want to talk - is grey, which is ugly.

At one point, I Stoneskinned red-circled mages in advance as a compromise. I honestly can’t recall if I’m still doing that - I think it might have been lost in the v32 rewrite. Will check when I have a chance.

So far as I know, you can’t disable it in EE. (If that’s out of date, I’d be interested in the details.)

EEex allows to recreate Stone Skins with all kinds of customization (no or different visual effects, effects triggered when a layer is consumed, effects triggered when all layers are gone), the latest version has example spells in the rep.

(You could even create a custom invisible stone skin with 1 layer that triggers the real 'pre-buff' stone skin effect if it is consumed)

Of course that would require EEex but I think its going to be as popular as ToBEx or more so anyway once EET and IWD-in-EET require it.
