Arcanamach Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 So I'm just wondering if any mods (from any of the BG communites) have been made for the console versions? If so, are there any forums about how to make them work or are they relatively seamless additions like DLC? Quote
subtledoctor Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 Somebody got them to work on the Switch. I think it was jailbroken though, or the equivalent. Quote
Jarno Mikkola Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 My original response: Moding console games is generally outside the general known definitions of the forum. This is because the ports could be done in multiple ways, and each console has their indicative coding practices that differ from a PC or Mac/Linux, and those alone are enough. @subtledoctor, a link or that didn't happen. This is very easy on iOS devices, you can move the files over by a dozen different methods. (Except the devs forgot to enable a necessary file extension for IWDEE, so for now it only works with BGEE, SoD, and BG2EE.) Consoles presumably don't give you that simple option to add the files... I never owned any consoles so I have no idea how easy it is get the required filesystem access. But if it can be done with the Switch, maybe it can be done with others. Quote
Jarno Mikkola Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 PS3 was able to run Linux at a point... but the feature was removed, "due to security concerns", which is BS-code for: "we don't want to to be able to jailbreak our hardware so easily, let alone emulate it". And look how that turned out. Lesson to learn: Consoles are just like any other type computer... the only difference is that the consoles don't cost up-front as much, but the licensed software is where the ka-ching comes from, to the company. So PS5 and the next XBox won't make the company any money... they are more likely to loose money with every sale. Quote
