Ferryman
Hello, I recently installed the original CD version of Baldur's Gate, US version, in Windows 10 and it gave me the error message "Wrong Version: This version will only run on English Language operating systems". I have never seen this before. The GOG version runs just fine and I'm pretty sure I played the CD version on Windows XP years ago without this problem. I thought that maybe my patch files were wrong. I looked at this site and in Sorcerer's.net and they only have this file: BGTalesUS5512.exe CRC-32: a45f1058 MD5: 26f2d8b73bcdf940c52f60e4d7ba95e2 SHA-1: 0f44384feb44d60f17ea7c3d44308a7c2ea5d05b and BGTalesDX8English.exe CRC-32: c18c97cd MD5: b539c05ffee2a02717b7bbd17bf00d0b SHA-1: e82897efc9eb81dd72d8a6704b3a31df407b9a74 The patch that I used is bgtosc_us_1.3.5521.exe CRC-32: 97a05a71 MD5: 723b8e2ece269034bd14c65a9623a343 SHA-1: 85c1adb7e6a5bc7f6c850253bde62ca95d36e403 I got it from fileplanet. Is it not an official patch? It fixes the DX8 bug and I think I don't need BGTalesDX8English.exe The GOG version is 1.3.5521 so how do I patch the CD version to 5521 instead of 5512 without any problems? Quote Link to comment
Jarno Mikkola
Well, even before patching, you first of all install the game to your profile files, here: C:\Users\<username>\<Games or similar subfolder>\Baldur's Gate\ ... if you use the C drive. If you don't, then you just install it anywhere in the other drives you like. That's Windows 10 for you, locked down C drive. Cause you do not own your C drives anymore. And the directx patch is unnessasary ! It's mostly about net code ... And if you play the game today on your PC, you probably have the kind of computer that eats 18 years old problems like it was done yesterday. PS, the 1.3.55... patches are for the BG1+TotSC game, not the non-Tales of the Swordcoast -addon game. So if you say you use the CD one, does it have 5 or 6 CDs ? If it's 5, then you need the bg114315.exe patch. That's the latest version of the official game. The TotSC addon has that included in itself... so you just need the 1.3.5512 for that. So patch the game with the official patch you can get from here at G3. Those need the CDs to play the game on. Unlike the GoG games that have a nonCD patch applied on them. The official patches are technically no longer available from Bioware, but the timemachine web archive also should have links from which it can link to the official patches, directly from Bioware, but they are the very same as the ones at here in G3. Ferryman
I have TOSC. It works when i install 1.3.5512 patch but then it breaks when I install 1.3.5521 patch. Quote Link to comment
Jarno Mikkola
Yeah, like I said, do not install the "latest patch" (5521) cause it breaks things. Yes, the only difference is the "DX fix". Or then download the game from GoG and you don't need your CDs etc. Edited March 4, 2020 by Jarno Mikkola Quote Link to comment
