Yet Another Thread About A Big BG2EE Install

Following the example of @Cahir and @4udr4n, I'm going to make a thread to talk about installing and playing with a bunch of mods.  As I'm playing on a very old and slow iPad Mini, this won't be an EET game - that would make for an /override folder well over a gigabyte large (maybe multiple gigabytes), and my machine only has 1GB of RAM.  I've recently played BGEE with a bunch of mods during the winter, and just finished SoD for the first time.  Now I'll attempt to get through BG2EE for the first time in years and years.  The purpose of this thread will be to discuss not just the process of modding, but what gameplay is like with all these mods.

For reference, for those experiencing installation issues, this sequence involved zero install errors.  It wasn't quick to install them, but it was pretty painless, as long as I paid attention and remembered where I left off each time I went away.  (This is not a full-time thing for me - I'm doing this in 20-minute spurts in between taking care of a couple kids in household isolation.  If this thread trails off and I stop updating it, don't worry: it doesn't mean anything happened to me, it will just mean I went crazy.)

EDIT - the discussion below is no longer applicable... when I switched to modding the game taken from the iPad app .ipa file instead of mnodding the desktop game and puttin those files on the iPad, the graphical glitches went away.

(The only things left to do here are install NPC_EE, and the A7TextureConvert mod so that I can get area files and other .PVRZ files working on the iPad. before I do that, I'm going to ask a question: in the previous incarnation of this install, when I looked at the worldmap, the little graphics denoting an area I can visit were all black boxes.  Anyone have an idea why?  It seems like they didn't get converted, or they were not copied over to the iPad?  (I copied over the /override and /worldmap folders.)  Notably, the Southern Edge are installed by Lava's mod had the proper graphic; only the vanilla areas were messed up.  This isn't the end of the world; I could still travel between areas just fine.  but it made me worry that I missed something, or that A7TextureConvert didn't catch everything.  @Luke, any idea what's up with that?  Have you experienced that before?)

Once I figure that out, I'll run A7TextureConvert, then NPC_EE.  Then I'll transfer everything over to the iPad and start playing.  At that point the question will be... what class to play??  What will this Charname be?

The one mix-up here was that I forgot the Dungeon Crawl mod, and added it way later than it should be.  Hopefully it's fine.  For reference, for those experiencing installation issues, this sequence involved zero install errors.  It wasn't quick to install them, but it was pretty painless, as long as I paid attention and remembered where I left off each time I went away.  (This is not a full-time thign for me - I'm doing this in 20-minute spurts in between taking care of a couple kids in household isolation.  If this thread trails off and I stop updating it, don't worry: it doesn't mean anything happened to me, it will just mean I went crazy.)

The only things left to do here are install NPC_EE, and the A7TextureConvert mod so that I can get area files and other .PVRZ files working on the iPad. before I do that, I'm going to ask a question: in the previous incarnation of this install, when I looked at the worldmap, the little graphics denoting an area I can visit were all black boxes.  Anyone have an idea why?  It seems like they didn't get converted, or they were not copied over to the iPad?  (I copied over the /override and /worldmap folders.)  Notably, the Southern Edge are installed by Lava's mod had the proper graphic; only the vanilla areas were messed up.  This isn't the end of the world; I could still travel between areas just fine.  but it made me worry that I missed something, or that A7TextureConvert didn't catch everything.  @Luke, any idea what's up with that?  Have you experienced that before?

Once I figure that out, I'll run A7TextureConvert, then NPC_EE.  Then I'll transfer everything over to the iPad and start playing.  At that point the question will be... what class to play??  What will this Charname be?

First of all, congratulations on finally playing this game! I'm glad I started this fun trend of other players share our installation process experience. I think this would benefit for other's experience, because it's not easy to set up proper installation order. On top of that it already resulted of a couple of mods being updated.

I would be very interested to read about psion run (whatever combination you choose) or some class with feats feature from MnG, since it's completely new territory to me. Would you plan to play solo run, full party, only 2-3 NPC's?

I generally run with 5-6 party members. 

As far as Charname:

I recently started playing a Psypher, which is a Ranger/Psion, before I realized I had missed a few mods that I want to use and scrapped the install.  It would be a good way to really test my psion mod and see how it plays through the late-game.  However, I was recently convinced that would actually be a great kit for Valygar.  Now, I usually don't play with Valygar, because he is a cardboard cut-out of a character and there are better NPCs to fill his role as the #2 guy in the formation (Kivan, Mazzy).  So, to really test the psionics, I would have to change that habit and take Valygar along for a lot of the game.  That would free up Charname to be something else... m aybe somethign religious, to kick the tires on some Faiths & Powers stuff?  Like a Fighter->Light Mystic dual-class?  Or, alternatively, if I make Charname some kind of arcane caster, I could test Tome & Blood's familiars.

Or, I could leave Valygar behind, play Charname as a Ranger/Psion multi, and play with psionics while having an easier time juggling NPCs.

Or, to test the most new mod stuff, I could play Charname as a Mage/Psion.  Not something I was particularly wanting to do - I usually play more melee-oriented Charnames.  But it would certainly be interesting, and I don't shy from puching myself outside my confort zone.  And, in the late game, a Mage/Psion is like to be quite powerful.  (Though, with unlimited 1st-level spells from "Level 1 Cantrips," there may just be too much overlap...

Fighter/Mystic combination looks good. I would also like to see a Magus run. I always wanted to find a perfect Fighter/mage combination, regular multiclass doesn't feel like a natural class. It would be fun to test his disadvantages, cause I feel casting time penalty seems severe. I for one play usually Spellcasters, so would love to see also a Cerebremancer run.

I've just realised that I have somehow left Multiclass bards off my install!

I was torn between Fighter/Sorcerer and Spellsinger.

Now that I can't run a Spellsinger, you should! Tests T&B arcane stuff, can melee, & forces you to run Valygar, which, as you seem against it I now actively want you to do. Try to make the most out of his storyline stuff.

Also, Valygar is actually pretty good as a Stalker, especially with your revisions, so I'm intrigued to see whether he works as a Psypher.

I actually like Valygar, but always thought him to be underdeveloped. His story could be expanded (it's actually quite fun) and his class really should be something different than bland ranger. I think there is a mod that expands his dialogs a bit (not Corthala Romantique), probably made by @Lava, but I forgot the name. I'd say, give the man a chance.

Jarno, I'm not sure what your issue is.  You want instructions for EET on an iPad?  Here

1) Install mods exactly as I described in the first post of this thread, except install EET at the beginning and EET_END right before SCS.  Don't install the EET_GUI thing.

2) Move the /override and /worldmap and /sounds and /lang folders over to the iPad, exactly the same as a normal BG2EE game like this one.

Combination of LaValygar, Corthala Romance and the Suna Seni restorations plus various mods that add to planar sphere should mean he isn't too awful.

Honestly, as a grit junky, I find his closed-offness refreshing, there are so many characters that seem thrilled to spill their guts 5 minutes after you meet them. Call me a cynic, question my choice of friends, but in my experience, people are not like that.

No. As I’ve said many times, even if I can install EET, my hardware isn’t good enough to play it well. As long as I haven’t actually played the thing to make sure there aren’t horrendous bugs, I’m not going to post instructions as if I’m some kind if expert. 

There are extremely detailed instructions for installing mods on iOS, over at the Beamdog forums. EET is a mod. There’s nothing I can add to that, other than what I’ve already said: I tried it, and it didn’t crash upon starting a game. That is all the pertinent information I have.

OK, but you can have a thread in the EET own forum, that first brings up the lure, and then sinks the hope when you were not able to make a good try at it. You for real man ?

No spoken words of what and how you failed, just that you had tried. Nothing wishing that you had iPad Mini 5... or other cleaver things that you could try and get the thing actually working. Just flat out claim that if you can't, no body can. And that "you are working at it." ...man.
