My try on a BGT run

Hello everybody!
After 10 years I decided it’s about time to return to Baldurs Gate (classic edition) again! I played some Mods back then and even tried my luck on a Big World Project Mega Mod (although I never finished it due to getting busy with real life...). So this time I again want to do a full modded BGT run. The goal is to get something that is reasonably balanced and lore friendly. So I am looking for quests and NPCs that feel like they have always been part of the game. (Although I am not sure if I am going to use any Mod NPCs, but I would like to have options).  I think I will be able to live with some bugs, but nevertheless would like to avoid mods that are known to be buggy.

Of course I have a few questions:

First of all, how crazy am I to try a mod list like this after a 10 year break?
Is there any mod not on the list that I definitely should use? Anything on the list I should avoid at all cost?
I am especially unsure about NPC Stronghold. I like the idea a lot, but I have not found a lot of people using it, so I am not sure how useable / bug free it is. Anybody with experience with this mod? The alternative would be to use the Tweak Anthology to make all Strongholds available for me, but I would prefer using NPC Stronghold. 
Also I am not sure what components of SCS I should use. I am looking for something challenging but not too frustrating. Any suggestions?
And finally, is there anything obviously wrong with my install order?

One warning about I4E: it changes the story arch by giving back Imoen in chapter 2&3. Most mods do not consider this possibility, so they assume Imoen is kidnapped (if talking about her) and Imoen will be addressed as if she was freed from Spellhold already (if she is talked to). Have a look into the I4E forum for compatibility list.

Also, recommendation is to install I4E before mods that might insert reply options in BGII.

If you install NPC Strongholds and Brandock, install Brandock after NPC Strongholds. Have a look here for an install order list of "my" mods. I think you got the other mods on my list/I am maintaining right though.

Regarding I4E: So you suggest moving it even earlier? Before Ascension? I expect some wrong Banters / Dialogs with I4E and that’s OK. Do you expect anything game breaking when using incompatible mods?

 

@Chitown Willie Thanks for you Weide Log. Most of it looks pretty similar to my plan and if yours is working fine I am optimistic with mine! I will split IA in two parts as you did (overlooked this in the IRR post) to be save.

I found your post about the SCS bug (standing mages). Did I understand it right, that Mages behave as intended as long as they have spells available and only stop doing anything once all are used? I will check the change logs and see if there is anything very important in the last versions and if not use the older version.

Tobex adds a file (if you did not see my post) called hidespl.2da

This blocks sorcerer spells at lvl up, if you or any npc's are one.

You can delete all the spxxxxx except one (just to be safe) and rename that to spell spg402(or what ever), that spell does not exist so it can  be blocked all day long w/o interfering with the lvl up

Out of curiosity, why do you have SCS so early in the order? Seems odd. Some of those tweak mods may or may not matter (I don't even recognize a bunch of them...!), but it especially seems that Spell Revisions should be installed before SCSSCS specifically looks for SR and adapts itself to the presence of SR spells...

@subtledoctor Thanks for your reply! I am not sure I get what you mean by early. The main part of SCS is 126 (out of 136). SRR (main component) is 117. aTweaks should be installed after SCS according to the SCS readme, so that leaves EET and klatu Tweaks, the Worldmap, NCS Portraits and some secondary components from other mods. I think I got this order from the BWP pdf but I know that this document is rather old, so does one of these needs to be installed before SCS?

Probably - I don't know what exactly Ascension changes. I4E changes text lines and adds triggers to relevant reply options so it needs the game as original as possible.

I would think that what I listed above should be about all incompatibilities (i.e. content wise with regard to Imoen's whereabouts). The only real incompatibility was with NPC Strongholds if Imoen takes over the Thiefguild before going to Spellhold but that should be fixed.

@jastey Sorry,  more questions... I spend some time reading various readmes and your posts about compatibility regarding I4E (very helpful, thanks a lot!). I think there should not be a lot of overlap between I4E, NTotSC, Ascension and Turnabout, so moving I4E before those three should not cause any issues. But now things become complicated (at least for me...): Everything remaining before I4E are various patches and BGT (see #1-9 in my original post). Basically all mod readmes and Mega-Mod lists said patches and BGT before everything else, but I have no idea if this is also true for I4E. Especially with one of the patches being a textpatch... You have any suggestion?
