Invisible Items / Item Text / Vendor Item

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

so i have done a fresh BG2EE installation and installed SCS and i get some items in containers and/or vendors which looks like this in the screenshot. No itemtext, Blank Icon. If i pick it up or buy it, it says "cannot remove item from inventory" like those old quest item key in the first dungeon.

I have got a german installation and did play around with a few features installed and not. My current installation is just tweaks in regards to gameplay, very few itemchanges (i think removal of dispelling arrows and wider selection of scrolls is all)

I always did a fresh run and spawned the vendor JAYES with CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("jayes") to check if its working or not. He has always that item in his stock.

Can someone help me with that issue ?

mh okay - if someone can confirm that this is not an item which is corrupted/broken in any way and i dont miss out on it, then im good with that too - no big deal.

in the meantime i did a couple of reinstallations, even in english but there seems to be ALWAYS this bug ... i find it unusal that i would be the first to have this bug. Checked all the forum and never saw a post with an issue like mine

No it is definitely a bug. But your post is not clear about your install. Are you seeing this with just SCS installed? I have a hundred mods installed so I cannot say whether it is an SCS bug. But I wanted to add a data point showing that you are not alone in seeing it. If you see it with just SCS, that is valuable information.

I know SCS v32/33 had issues with the "Wider selection of random scrolls" component generating invalid items. There were two varieties I observed (English language) in my games:

- "Invalid: 9999". Item has this description, and is non-removable if picked up. These items were correctly turned into random scroll token items at mod installation, but failed to resolve properly during gameplay. Leaving the area, or dropping something into the container/ground pile, "rerolls" them into the intended random item.

- No description at all. The item simply doesn't exist. If you try to pick it up, it won't be there at all. If you drop something into the container/ground pile, it'll fill the slot that the missing item held. In the area/creature files, these items were NONE; the component failed to turn them into random scroll tokens at install time.

I never saw anything like that store issue. Looking at the placement ... the vanilla version of Jayes' store has items SCRL7X (Conjure Fire Elemental), SCRL7Y (Conjure Earth Elemental), SCRL7Z (Conjure Air Elemental), and SCRL8A (Carrion Summons) in order. Clearly, the invalid item you're seeing is inserted by a mod rather than an existing item being transformed.

The random scrolls component does not alter stores at all. The dispelling arrows component does not alter Jayes' store, because Perter (elsewhere in Waukeen's Promenade) and the Weapon Merchant in Neera's ToB quest are the only merchants in the BG2EE campaign that sell dispelling arrows in the first place. It must be something else.

Also, random scroll invalid items were specifically called out as fixed in SCS v34.

I suspect that the bad item in your picture is actually coming from the Icewind Dale spell component; there's an arcane spell that the component tries to insert into the store, but something broke. I tried to look closer in the copy of SCS v33 I have lying around ... if I'm reading the component right, that should insert a spell (Monster Summoning 4, visible in your shot) after Wyvern Call and another (Summon Shadow) after Carrion Summons, but nothing between those two. Maybe the v34 update added "Conjure Water Elemental", and that's what broke?

Wow thanks for the insight. Well if its just that im okay with it. I think thats correct jmerry, because i also noticed that the LESSER air, water, fire and earth elemental desciptions are not correct in the mage spellbooks. The  normal ones are good.

All of those say " Eye of Stone - This eye absorbs an petrification attack casted on the mage" instead of the normal spell information. This is a rough translation from me, i did not found anything related to "eye of stone", could be an item of some sort -.-

So if its missing the spelldescription in the spellbook, it can also be connected to the scroll which is missing in the store. but yea, i have no idea - i not a modder.

However, maybe it will be fixed in the next version of scs. For now im good with that.

The IWD spell component changes the elemental summoning spells, to remove that "battle for control" from the vanilla BG series. So, of course, it has to update those descriptions. Sounds like that went wrong, and it grabbed a different description added by the same component.

It certainly looks like the IWD spell component needs substantial fixing for the next version.

Just wanted to confirm I am also having this issue. I have observed two types of invisible items, one that you can move and thus put back in the container from your inventory after which it will become UN-invisible and a real item/gold. And unremovable items which just clog inventory space and can't be interacted with or moved. Which effectively means you have to quicksave before looting every container to figure out which invisible item you're gonna get this time so as to not permanently lose an inventory slot. I had a similar thing happen in BG1EE, but only once or twice and it was an unremovable item both times so I wrote it off as a game bug. In BG2EE, however, it seems to happen at just about every other container you loot, and it seems to be cause by the wider scrolls component (had it installed for both BG1EE and BG2EE, non EET).

Well, or just don't click on seemingly-empty container boxes? If you don't try to pick up the invisible things, then they can't clog your inventory.

They can if you spam click the loot in a container with a bunch of stuff/gold in it and the last item happens to be invisible. But you're right, why report bugs when you can just ignore them.

Are you sure that they don't disappear of your inventory when you load a save game?

Each time I get such items, I save and reload, and that's it.

In order to check :

  • take an invisible item,
  • try to move it,
  • if it's unremovable save,
  • relaod your savegame,
  • check that the item is not in your inventory anymore.
