Kingskunk
I currently have an BGEET game that I stopped playing three months ago, I barely started the trilogy campaign, only on day 4 ATM, and want to continue where I started off. I noticed one of the mods in my EET mod collection has been updated, Heroes, Thieves, and Moneylenders to be specific. I would very much like to update the mod without having to go through the many hours of doing an entire 175 mod EET installation. I'm an experienced Modder, but not that experienced when it comes to Baldur's gate. Is it as simple as simply copy pasting everything from the updated version to the directory(overwriting any files) and running the setup file again? Am I missing a few steps? Quote Link to comment
jastey
The update process means: all mods after the mod in question get deinstalled, starting with the last. This is because of how the backup files are handled - the deinstaller restores the backups after every deinstalled mod. Then, all mods will be reinstalled. 5 minutes ago, Kingskunk said: I would very much like to update the mod without having to go through the many hours of doing an entire 175 mod EET installation. That's not really possible I am afraid, unless the mod you want to update is the last in the list. Plus, it is highly not recommended to update mods if you want to continue with your savegame. Updating mods on a running game is always a risk the save is borked afterwards. Quote Link to comment
subtledoctor
Definitely back up the whole game directory first. What you suggest has a nonzero chance of borking the install. Just running the installer and clicking “reinstall” will not work work with a different version of the mod... at the very least you would have to copy the backup subfolder from the old version to the new one beforehand, but even then it might not work, since the files have changed. Basically I would 1) back up the game; 2) try the selective reinstall like you say; 3) be prepared for that to fail; and if it does fail, either 4) just play the existing install or 5) do a full reinstall of everything. If it was me I would just play the game and forget updating. Quote Link to comment

I will take your advice, you both saved me, would have definitely made the wrong choice there. I have never actually finished any of the Baldur Gate Games, so maybe I should not be too concerned with missing out an update on a single mod. Just to be clear, I advice strongly against this - just putting this here for completeness sake. The way to update a mod would be uninstalling the mod, delete the mod files, copying the new mod package into the game folder, and then installing the new version. Have fun with your playthrough!
