A little boy comes up to you in the slums (or to the 'goodest' character in your team) and asks you to find his family. After you ask people around, their replies lead you to the 'Den of the seven wales' in promenade. Feminist bartender tells a female person in your team that a group of people indeed came here and went upstairs. She didn't see them leave but she saw dim flashes at night. You go upstairs and find a cowled wizard who tells you that a transformation spell and dimention door have been used here recently. If you return to him later he will say that the magic was sufficient enough only to teleport persons to within promenade. If you have a magic licence, you use a dispel scroll or spell near the animal cages and a squirell turns into a woman. Woman turns out to be the childs mother, she goes back to him, asking you to find her husband. You talk to the animal tamer and ask him about his recently aquired and sold animals. He tells you about a mustang that was shipped to Trademeet, rabbit that was taken to Imnesville and a mountain lion that was to be shipped to Calimshan but broke out of his cage and fled. After you investigate the horse and the rabbit and find nothing, next outdoor encounter will be with the three wolves attacking a lion. Kill the wolves dispel the transformation and send the man to his family. Go back to the 'Den' ask for a room and you will wake up to fight the wizard scum that almost orphanized the child. The End

Interesting quest idea, but you probably need to flesh out the motive behind the wizard turning people into animals. If he just wanted to sell lions to fat Calimshite nobles, then he could just change rats into lions, but maybe he's smuggling slaves in a very specialised manner, so that specific people can be kidnapped and moved with great ease.

Then the animal tamer would have to be on on it, unless he's really just another wizard who captured tamer and took his appearance. And instead of slavery thinng thiese people could be captured as human guinea pigs for magical experiments. But I guess slavery works fine too. Just struck my mind--this pseudo tamer has to be interrogated before giving up the locations of the animals, or you could borrow circus accounting book from Quale.

Guinea pigs for magical experiments is good too, and the animal trainer could be completely in the dark if you like, just storing the "animals" for the wizard until they were ready for transport.

And multiple ways to solve a quest are always a good thing in my book.

I like this quest idea very much. :)

Only thing I didn't understand which animal tamer you are referring to. Would the mod insert a new one? The only animal tamer I recall is in the Copper Coronet with his fierce animals for the slave fightings and that one is attacking as soon as I meet him (which is most of the times very soon in the game).

Second thing is that there are many restrictions: That the boy would only approach a good character is OK IMO, but then a female party member is required, and a magic license. The latter meaning I could never play this quest with my fighter. Transferring the animals to different areas / inside a house would solve this problem.

I don't understand the role of the mage, either: First he gives you clues and then he is the head of everything, attacking? But maybe you changed his coccept already, this was taken out of your first post.

By tamer I mean the dude who's standing on the platform between the cages. He's the one who is supposed to give you clues about elephand hide and he leaves for a while to investigate when you tell him that the curcus is saved.

Magic licence is given to you upon comletion of the Boo quest in the Unfinished Business Mod. I don't know if cowled wizards give licences to to fighters-- I was Kensai-Mage at the time. But then there's always more than one way to gets something in real life.

Mage doesn't give you clues, you figure them out from the way he acts and speaks, etc.

Never really noticed this animal tamer...

More than one way: Exactly. That's why I proposed that you integrate a way to solve this quest for people without magic license, too.

Mage: Ah, OK, it sounded as if he would just give the information when asked.

I wish you good luck, I really like this quest idea.

Wish me luck? I never intended to make anything of this idea, just trying to unload my brain. If someone wants to use it in any way, he or she should freel free to do it. I dont even ask for any kind of credit for it.

Ah, Ok  Sorry, I thought you wanted to mod that. Well, I will definately keep the idea in mind. If you don't insist that it will be an (own) mod for BGII, maybe I will include the idea of the humans that are transformed into animals into the BG1 Quest Pack (at Black Wyrm's Forums).
