HotaruPL Posted July 30 Share Posted July 30 While entering Copper Coronet my game freezes after about 10 seconds (unless I'm in the middle of a dialogue, than it waits after I'm done and does it then). Is it too many NPC's in one location (see Weidu underneath) or are some of the mods making it freeze. From what I've read once, having too many NPC's may cause the game to freeze too. As for freezing itself, it is frustrating as I can't turn the game off or use any hotkeys e.g task manager. I have to restart the whole PC. Really frustrating. Suffice to say, everything so far (Waukeen Promenade and Irenicus Dungeon) worked super well. No issues whatsoever. So I need some assistance. It doesn't really say which mods include certain dialog.tlk's problems but most of these are caused by Lester. I assume the problem might be that I accidentally installed this NPC, even though he is Polish. The language change may cause issues with freezing, plus he is residing in Copper Coronet so it makes perfect sense. Most of error strings found, 3/4 of it has his dialogues, suggesting he is the problem. There is a couple, although not many, other strings in I assume various parts of the game found, but I do not think they cover Copper Coronet area. Does it means I need to get rid of this mod or is there a way around it anyhow. Appreciate the help. Thankee! Quote Link to comment
jastey Posted July 30 Share Posted July 30 Maybe the mod in question is not made ready for EE? The text formatting on EE needs to be utf8 (without BOM), the one for classic BG(II) was ANSI. If a mod does not consider this, it will lead to freezing EE game upon symbols / special characters. I wouldn't know a way around other than to uninstall the mod, maybe reinstall it with correct text format, before you enter CC the first time. Best of course is to start a new game, but if it is "only" an NPC mod then maybe it also works for early save (after leaving ID). Reinstalling gets difficult if you have a long install list, especially with SCS at the end. Hmm, maybe quick fix is to correct his name in NI, which is probably the one that lets your game crash in CC. But any content of the mod (the NPC talking, item descriptions, etc) would still have this problem. Quote Link to comment

But I assumed there was no problem seeing that Weidu installer didn't stop the installation process. It is quite a commotion as for example Ruad mod, was also not 'converted' into EE from the classics and yet still gets installed and works brilliantly, and then some other mods are still getting installed and produce a problem afterwards. That's what confuses many players, me including. I really wish the game would come up with error messege, rather than just freeze unavoidandly. Yeah, you're right about re-installing, especially a list that big. It would possibly un-install some other mods along the way, not to mention how long it would take for the process to finish. I was wondering if maybe there is a 'less intrusive' way to 'dispose' of Lester. For example, a command that removes him from the game, something along the lines of 'kill creature_Lester' or something? I want to avoid re-installing if possible Quote Link to comment

I have the save from right before entering it, as it crashes me everytime I go in so it is okay. On a different note, are you aware by any chance why mods have to be converted ti EE in the first place? I mean, the game, the mechanics, the file names are the same and Weidu is still at work. The EEs made several changes. A lot just works without changes, i.e. there is a lot of upward compatibility, but the different text encoding is crucial. It would make sense why Lester doesn't work considering he is Polish and Polish language has extra signs and letters. Quote Link to comment
