Oracle Posted October 3 Posted October 3 wanted to submit ideas for rarer equipment and weapons , so here's my first try got an idea for a fighting staff and a few instruments too Kajiros Drying Pole, +3 On first inspection this weapon seems to nothing but a large wooden commonly used in training and sparring matches in Kara-tur. Closer inspection of the weapons true nature revels that the blade is however made out of stained black lacquered wood with wickedly cruel serrated edge with tiny teeth like notches on the blades edge. Said to be the weapon of a sadistic wandering swordsmaster and mercenary Kajiro whose swordfighting style would focused causing small cuts and causing exsanguination in his foes. The blade acquired its name by Kajiros habit of impaling multiple foes on the blades length after leaving them nearly dead of blood lose, giving it a look of a laundry pole with several set of clothes being hung on it to the onlooker and spectators to his bout. Kaijros dueling days would end when he was finally slayed in duel by a rival swordsmaster and the blade was taken has a trophy and it became a treasured family heirloom . how it ended on the sword coast is unknown. CamDawg Posted October 3 Author Posted October 3 I should have mentioned this earlier, but if an item needs restrictions beyond what an item type normally gets, please mention that as well. DiesIrae Posted October 4 Posted October 4 8 hours ago, CamDawg said: Should this be a dwarf-only item, or open to everyone? Never actually thought of that. I do like the idea of dwarf only. But the argument against is there is no items at least in base game that have a continuous buff (one Helm that's better on dwarf) Maybe it should be for everyone but dwarves get more. Grand Inquisitor Posted October 4 Posted October 4 (edited) A very interesting initiative! I'm not sure whether it's possible to implement something like this, but here's an idea inspired by item sets from Diablo II. Brother Morcalad’s Hallowed Panoply This set could be purchased from Bolumir (https://baldursgate.fandom.com/wiki/Bolumir). - - - Item Name Morcalad’s Bastion Item Type Plate Mail Item Description Crafted from polished steel, this breastplate shines with a brilliant, reflective surface that captures and amplifies the light around it. At its center, a prominent emblem of Tempus is embossed, depicting a flaming sword crossed over a sturdy shield, a symbol of divine protection and martial valor. Dark leather straps, intricately adorned with elegant knotwork, secure the armor firmly to your body, ensuring a snug fit that feels both comfortable and reassuring. As you don the breastplate, a profound sense of security envelops you, instilling confidence as you prepare to face whatever challenges lie ahead. Morcalad had experienced the chaos of conflict long before he ever learned the name of Tempus. As a mercenary, he fought solely for the familiar sound of clinking coins, his heart hardened by years of bloodshed and betrayal. Battle was his existence, yet it held no true meaning. Then, during a particularly grueling campaign, Morcalad found himself vastly outnumbered, his comrades falling around him like leaves in a storm. For the first time, he stood on the precipice of death, his strength waning, the weight of his choices pressing down on him like a suffocating shroud. In the roar of the battlefield, Morcalad heard something beyond the clash of steel - a deep, commanding voice urging him to fight not for gold, but for glory, honor, and the purity of combat itself. That night, he embraced this newfound purpose, rallying the remaining forces and leading them to an improbable victory against overwhelming odds. When the dust settled, he knelt amidst the fallen, humbled by the profound realization that his path was no longer that of a sword-for-hire but as a devoted servant of Tempus, the god of war. He cast aside his mercenary's cloak, dedicating his life to the divine power that had finally given his existence meaning. From that moment on, he became Brother Morcalad, a seasoned warrior-priest of Tempus. For decades, he fought in the name of his god, leading men into countless battles and witnessing the sacrifices of many brave souls along the way. Teir valor inspired him to push forward, to honor their memory by embodying the very essence of what it meant to be a warrior-priest. In the heat of battle, he often paused to offer prayers, beseeching Tempus for strength and guidance, his voice rising above the din of war. But then, one evening, as he knelt to pray in his temple, a profound silence enveloped him, absent of the familiar roar of Tempus. Instead, he felt a gentle release—a peace he had never known. For the first time, he sensed no call to arms. Taking a deep breath of cool evening air, he understood that his days as a warrior were coming to a close. In the dimly lit armory of his temple, he reverently set down his breastplate, a testament to his unwavering service, and laid his mace beside it, its sturdy form a powerful symbol of his piety. The weapon, imbued with the weight of countless victories and the echoes of fierce battles, gleamed with a fierce dignity. His shield, a steadfast companion in countless fights, was carefully positioned next to the breastplate, its scars whispering stories of his sacrifices and valor. Finally, he gently placed his sapphire circlet nearby, a shimmering reminder of the divine guidance he had received throughout his journey.. In a flash, he vanished from the temple, leaving only the echoes of his presence and the remnants of his storied journey. No one knew where he had gone. Some speculated that Tempus had called him to a higher purpose, while others whispered that his spirit had ascended to join the ranks of legendary heroes. In the taverns and temples, stories circulated that he might have simply chosen to leave the life of a warrior behind, seeking solace in meditation and reflection, savoring the quiet moments he had long missed. Whaterver the case, his panoply remained untouched on the temple's armory, waiting to inspire the next generation of warriors. The shield bears the scars of countless battles - deep scratches and dents etched into its surface, each one a silent testament to its history. jmerry Posted October 4 Posted October 4 A silly idea I had a while back, but never had a place for ... Item Name Peril-Sensitive Goggles Item type Headgear Item description Commissioned by a sneak-thief known as Janta the Jumpy, this set of goggles is intricately enchanted to detect threatening creatures and hide them from the wearer in a veil of magical darkness. In addition, they improve the wearer's focus at delicate manual tasks. Janta's fortunes turned when he began wearing these goggles, and he was overheard bragging of treasures he recovered from all over the Sword Coast. But nothing lasts forever, and he vanished about a year later. He was last seen inquiring after ways to reach the legendary Undercity buried beneath Baldur's Gate. STATISTICS: Equipped abilities: - Hide in Shadows: +10% - Detect Traps: +10% - Open Locks: +10% - Blinds wearer when they see an enemy Art direction Goggles, or cool shades? No, Janta was not cool. They may go dark, but they're goggles. Other notes Usable by thieves, maybe also by monks and rangers. This would go in Black Lily's shop for optimal flavor, but could be held by any merchant. In the unstated part of the story, Janta died when he encountered a trap and a monster at the same time in the maze beneath the thieves' guild - he was blinded, so he didn't see the trap until it was too late. The blindness should be a triggered effect that lasts for a few rounds; this avoids the need to make the goggles cursed, as the wearer will still be blinded even if they switch to something else. Stats ... subject to change if it feels appropriate. The item's flavor is a reference to a joke in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. And the mechanics are a play on the "if you can't see them, you can hide" oddity in these games. Quote

CrevsDaak Posted October 5 Posted October 5 The Realmshaper's Brush (+4 Halberd) +4 THAC0, 1d10+4 damage When hitting a target 33% chance to paint them green, 33% chance to paint them red, and 33% chance to paint them blue. Targets with a color already applied to them suffer additional effects as follows: Painted green, hit by green: target is made invisible for one round, but takes 5 Poison damage per second for one round as well. Painted green, hit by red: target is cursed as by the Contagion spell, but as a semi-permanent curse with a -4 save vs. breath. Painted green, hit by blue: target is Hasted, and suffers from a -10 penalty to melee damage, however, each time they land an attack, they must save vs. spells or take 2d12 lightning damage. Painted red, hit by red: target immediately takes 4d6 slashing damage, some blood/gorey effect should play when this happens. Painted red, hit by green: target must save vs. death or be knocked unconcious for one round. Painted red, hit by blue: all nearby enemies and allies are protected (50% cumulative res) from Lightning damage, prot. from evil visual plays on every affected creature (15' radius). Painted blue, hit by blue: target is given two extra attacks per round, but cannot cast spells for half a round. Painted blue, hit by red: target is struck by lightning (Call Lightning animation plays), takes 7d7 lightning damage. Painted blue, hit by green: both the wielder and the caster take 2d4 cold damage and are slowed (save vs. breath negates) for 1 round. Must be noted that each color will replace the previous one, and that for the specific combination of Red -> Green -> Blue, all previous effects are to be negated and a Rogue Stone is created in the target's inventory. I'm fairly certain this is doable, applying a tint to enemies on-hit included (sounds like a nightmare to code though, sorry Cam). Art direction: the red, green and blue tints must be as close to 255 in the favoured colour and zero in the other two fields as possible (non-negotiable). Artistic implementation of the item's appareance is left to the creator's own discretion. Quote
Giovanski Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Name Executioner Putty Type Miscellaneous (Quick slot item) Description: This unusual blob of pitch black clay is freezing cold to the touch and resembles an executioner's hood. It can be stretched and shaped into a variety of forms for one's own amusement, but always reverts to its original, eerie shape. Statistics: Executioner's Eyes (once per day): This spell enhances the vision of allies, allowing them to see the hidden weaknesses of all creatures. The divination grants a +4 attack bonus and a +4 bonus to critical hits (if you critical hit on a natural roll of 20, you now critically hit on any roll from 16-20) to all allies within a 15-foot radius for 10 rounds. Art Direction: Nothing fancy, just a spooky looking old black hood as if were made out of playdough. Other Notes: Spell is taken from Icewind Dale II. The Forgotten Realms wiki entry for the Executioner monster type perfectly captures the art direction idea. Could be available for purchase in Ribald's special store since the spell is so powerful. Grand Inquisitor Posted October 5 Posted October 5 (edited) Item Name Minstrel’s Defence Item Type Bastard Sword Item Description This finely crafted bastard sword is designed for both beauty and lethality. Its blade gleams with a silvery sheen, slightly tapering towards a sharp point. Along the fuller, faint musical notes are etched. The hilt is wrapped in dark brown leather, providing a comfortable grip. Intricate gold inlay runs along the length of the hilt, forming swirling patterns reminiscent of delicate filigree. The blade is enchanted to respond to music, particularly the voice of its wielder, offering protection and guidance when the wielder sings. When a song or melody is sung by its wielder, the sword resonates with the music, creating a shimmering barrier of ethereal sound around the wielder. The blade itself moves fluidly in tandem with the song, parrying attacks as though guided by an unseen hand, reacting to the tempo and tone of the music. A soft hum of harmony accompanies each deflection, as if the blade is weaving a protective melody of its own. STATISTICS: Combat abilities: - Grants a +3 bonus to Armor Class, +3 bonus to all saving throws and a 25% chance to parry any melee attacks directed at the user whenever the wielder uses Bard Song. THAC0: +3 Damage: 1d10+3 Damage type: Slashing Speed Factor: 7 Proficiency Type: Bastard Sword Type: One-handed Requires: 11 Strength Art Direction Other Notes Can be used only by Bards. Could work nicely with any mods that grant Lingering Performance, allowing for quick bursts of melee fighting.
