I'm not sure whether it's possible to implement something like this, but here's an idea inspired by item sets from Diablo II. Brother Morcalad’s Hallowed Panoply This set could be purchased from Bolumir (https://baldursgate.fandom.com/wiki/Bolumir). - - - Item Name Morcalad’s Bastion Item Type Plate Mail Item Description Crafted from polished steel, this breastplate shines with a brilliant, reflective surface that captures and amplifies the light around it. At its center, a prominent emblem of Tempus is embossed, depicting a flaming sword crossed over a sturdy shield, a symbol of divine protection and martial valor. Dark leather straps, intricately adorned with elegant knotwork, secure the armor firmly to your body, ensuring a snug fit that feels both comfortable and reassuring. As you don the breastplate, a profound sense of security envelops you, instilling confidence as you prepare to face whatever challenges lie ahead. Morcalad had experienced the chaos of conflict long before he ever learned the name of Tempus. As a mercenary, he fought solely for the familiar sound of clinking coins, his heart hardened by years of bloodshed and betrayal. Battle was his existence, yet it held no true meaning. Then, during a particularly grueling campaign, Morcalad found himself vastly outnumbered, his comrades falling around him like leaves in a storm. For the first time, he stood on the precipice of death, his strength waning, the weight of his choices pressing down on him like a suffocating shroud. In the roar of the battlefield, Morcalad heard something beyond the clash of steel - a deep, commanding voice urging him to fight not for gold, but for glory, honor, and the purity of combat itself. That night, he embraced this newfound purpose, rallying the remaining forces and leading them to an improbable victory against overwhelming odds. When the dust settled, he knelt amidst the fallen, humbled by the profound realization that his path was no longer that of a sword-for-hire but as a devoted servant of Tempus, the god of war. He cast aside his mercenary's cloak, dedicating his life to the divine power that had finally given his existence meaning. From that moment on, he became Brother Morcalad, a seasoned warrior-priest of Tempus. For decades, he fought in the name of his god, leading men into countless battles and witnessing the sacrifices of many brave souls along the way. Teir valor inspired him to push forward, to honor their memory by embodying the very essence of what it meant to be a warrior-priest. In the heat of battle, he often paused to offer prayers, beseeching Tempus for strength and guidance, his voice rising above the din of war. But then, one evening, as he knelt to pray in his temple, a profound silence enveloped him, absent of the familiar roar of Tempus. Instead, he felt a gentle release—a peace he had never known. For the first time, he sensed no call to arms. Taking a deep breath of cool evening air, he understood that his days as a warrior were coming to a close. In the dimly lit armory of his temple, he reverently set down his breastplate, a testament to his unwavering service, and laid his mace beside it, its sturdy form a powerful symbol of his piety. The weapon, imbued with the weight of countless victories and the echoes of fierce battles, gleamed with a fierce dignity. His shield, a steadfast companion in countless fights, was carefully positioned next to the breastplate, its scars whispering stories of his sacrifices and valor. Finally, he gently placed his sapphire circlet nearby, a shimmering reminder of the divine guidance he had received throughout his journey.. In a flash, he vanished from the temple, leaving only the echoes of his presence and the remnants of his storied journey. No one knew where he had gone. Some speculated that Tempus had called him to a higher purpose, while others whispered that his spirit had ascended to join the ranks of legendary heroes. In the taverns and temples, stories circulated that he might have simply chosen to leave the life of a warrior behind, seeking solace in meditation and reflection, savoring the quiet moments he had long missed. Whaterver the case, his panoply remained untouched on the temple's armory, waiting to inspire the next generation of warriors. Marzx13 Posted October 6 Posted October 6 (edited) EDIT: I have narrowed my initial list of items down to 3 (a +3, +4 and +5 dart) and nerfed and adjusted each as per @jmerry's very reasonable suggestions. Hopefully these are more reasonable. Updated Item details: Item Name: Dart of the Lethargic Soul (+3) Item Type: Dart Item Description: Forged by the infamous drow weaponsmith Draegloth Veldrin, the Dart of the Lethargic Soul is a masterpiece of Underdark craftsmanship. Veldrin, a devout follower of Kiaransalee, imbued this dart with energies drawn from souls trapped between life and death. While not crafted by the deity herself, the dart resonates with her essence, reflecting her dominion over vengeance and undeath. Those struck by the dart experience an overwhelming lethargy, their movements slowed as if burdened by the weight of lost souls. The wielder, shielded by the dart's necromantic magic, gains immunity to similar slowing effects, allowing them to move unimpeded through battles that mire others. STATISTICS: Damage: 1d3+3 (piercing damage) THAC0: +3 bonus Speed Factor: 0 Special Abilities: On Hit: 20% chance to Slow the target for 2 rounds (Save vs. Death at -2) Equipped Abilities: Immunity to Slow effects Usability: Usable by all classes that can use darts Not usable by surface elves Note: The dart returns to the wielder after every throw Art Direction: This dart is crafted from a dull, gray metal that seems to absorb light. Etched along its length are tiny, swirling patterns resembling anguished faces. When thrown, it leaves a faint trail of shadowy wisps, and those nearby might hear a distant sigh carried on the wind. Other Notes: The dart symbolizes the dark artistry of Draegloth Veldrin and his dedication to Kiaransalee. While powerful, it is a relic of the drow's shadowed society, and wielding it may draw the ire or interest of those familiar with its origin. Item Name: Vampiric Dart of Eternal Hunger (+4) Item Type: Dart Item Description: Once held by the notorious necromancer Szass Tam, the lich lord of Thay, the Vampiric Dart of Eternal Hunger embodies the perpetual craving of the undead. Forged through a gruesome ritual involving the sacrificial blood of a hundred innocents from the realm of Aglarond, the dart is a vessel of insatiable thirst. When held, it feels unnaturally cold, and a faint pulse can be sensed, mirroring a heartbeat that no longer exists. Its thirst for life is particularly potent against the pure-hearted, drawing greater sustenance from their virtuous souls. The dart's hunger extends to magic itself, occasionally reigniting the fading embers of the wielder's own spells. However, the wielder must be cautious, for the dart demands a price, sipping away a fragment of their vitality upon being equipped. STATISTICS: Damage: 1d3+4 (piercing damage) THAC0: +4 bonus Speed Factor: 0 Special Abilities: On Hit: 20% chance to steal 1d4 Hit Points from the target and transfer them to the wielder (can exceed the wielder's maximum Hit Points) (Note: Cap this if it is overpowered) On Hit: 10% chance to restore one forgotten spell slot to the wielder (Change to 5% if overpowered) Equipped Abilities: May cast Vampiric Touch at max level once per day Upon equipping, the dart drinks some of the wielder's blood, temporarily reducing Constitution by 1 point Deals an additional +1 piercing damage against good-aligned creatures Usability: Usable by all classes that can use darts Only usable by Neutral and Evil-aligned characters Note: The dart returns to the wielder after every throw Art Direction: Fashioned from obsidian, the dart is sleek with crimson veins pulsing subtly beneath its surface. The tip is needle-sharp, and when held, it feels unnaturally cold, as if drawing warmth from the wielder's hand. Other Notes: A favored tool of dark mages and assassins, this dart symbolizes the parasitic nature of undeath. Its direct connection to Szass Tam adds a layer of infamy, and wielding it may attract unwanted attention from those who oppose Thayan interests or seek to challenge the lich lord's influence. Item Name: Dart of the Severing Mist (+5) (Intended for use in ToB) Item Type: Dart Item Description: An artifact of the legendary necromancer Acererak, the Dart of the Severing Mist is a weapon of unparalleled lethality. Enshrouded in a corrosive fog drawn from the Demiplane of Acid, this dart doesn't merely wound—it severs the very thread of life. The mist that envelops it is said to dissolve flesh and bone in an instant, explaining how such a small weapon can produce a Vorpal effect. (Select one of these paragraphs based on the option that is implemented) Option 1 Description (for Equipped Ability Option 1): The wielder is enveloped in the same corrosive mist, granting them the benefits of Ko'Zedaz's Caustic Shell. This acid-infused barrier not only protects against similar attacks but also harms those who dare strike the wielder, marking them with the dart's deadly essence. Option 2 Description (for Equipped Ability Option 2 or 3): Understanding the immense power contained within, the wielder can channel the dart's energies to cast Ko'Zedaz's Caustic Shell or Protection From Acid (Edit based on option 2 or 3 selected), unleashing its corrosive potential when most needed. This dart is a relic of epic power, its mere presence commanding respect and fear. It is a testament to Acererak's mastery over life and death, and few weapons in existence can rival its deadly efficiency. STATISTICS: Damage: 1d3+5 (piercing damage) plus 1d3 acid damage THAC0: +5 bonus Speed Factor: 0 Special Abilities: On Hit: 5% chance of Vorpal effect (instant death by decapitation) (No Save) Equipped Abilities: (Select only one of the below 3 options) Option 1: Permanent effect of Ko'Zedaz's Caustic Shell (provides acid resistance and damages attackers) Note: If this is too complex to implement, see Option 2 or 3. Option 2: Allows the wielder to cast Ko'Zedaz's Caustic Shell twice per day at max level Option 3: Allows the wielder to cast Protection From Acid twice per day Usability: Usable by all classes that can use darts No alignment restrictions Note: The dart returns to the wielder after every throw Art Direction: The dart is crafted from a dark, glossy metal that appears pockmarked, as if corroded by acid. It emits a faint, swirling mist tinged with green, which feels cold to the touch. When thrown, it leaves a trail of corrosive fog that lingers briefly before dissipating. Other Notes: This weapon is the epitome of necromantic craftsmanship, embodying the dread power of Acererak himself. Its Vorpal effect is a manifestation of the dart's ability to dissolve life instantaneously. Wielders should be cautious, as the immense power it offers comes with the weight of its dark legacy. =========== Original post: =========== I am posting a bunch of darts here. Darts need some love. Item Name: Dart of the Lethargic Soul (+3) Item Type: Dart Item Description: Forged in the shadowed forges beneath the necropolis of Moil, the Dart of the Lethargic Soul is imbued with energies siphoned from souls trapped between life and death. This dart was crafted by the necromancer Kiaransalee, drow deity of vengeance and undeath, during her mortal days as she sought instruments to sap the vitality of her foes. This dart carries fragments of Kiaransalee's most twisted, tormented souls, causing those struck to feel an overwhelming weariness as if their very essence is being drained. The necromantic magic within this dart occasionally surges, allowing it to strike with unexpected force, embodying the desperate struggles of the souls within. STATISTICS: Damage: 1d3+3 (piercing damage) THAC0: +3 bonus Speed Factor: 0 Special Abilities: On Hit: 20% chance to Slow the target for 2 rounds (Save vs Death -2) On Hit: 10% chance to deal double damage Usability: Usable by all classes that can use darts Usable by characters of all alignments Note: The dart returns to the wielder after every throw Art Direction: This dart is crafted from a dull, gray metal that seems to absorb light. Other Notes: The darts serve as a reminder of Kiaransalee's mortal quest for vengeance and her manipulation of souls. They are sought after by those who wish to hinder their enemies, buying precious moments in battle. Item Name: Vampiric Dart of Eternal Hunger (+4) Item Type: Dart Item Description: Once held by the notorious necromancer Szass Tam, the lich lord of Thay, the Vampiric Dart of Eternal Hunger is a sinister weapon that embodies the perpetual craving of the undead. Forged with dark rituals and bathed in the blood of innocents, the dart drains the life essence of its victims to feed its wielder's vitality and arcane power. Its thirst for life is particularly potent against the pure-hearted, drawing greater sustenance from their virtuous souls. The dart’s hunger extends to magic itself, occasionally reigniting the fading embers of the wielder's own spells. STATISTICS: Damage: 1d3+4 (piercing damage) THAC0: +4 bonus Speed Factor: 0 Special Abilities: On Hit: Steals 1d4 Hit Points from the target and transfers them to the wielder On Hit: 10% chance to restore one forgotten spell slot to the wielder Equipped Abilities: May cast Vampiric Touch at max level twice per day Deals an additional +4 damage against good-aligned creatures Usability: Usable by all classes that can use darts Only usable by Neutral and Evil-aligned characters Note: The dart returns to the wielder after every throw Art Direction: Fashioned from obsidian, the dart is sleek with crimson veins pulsing along its surface. The tip is needle-sharp, and when held, it emits a faint, unsettling warmth. Upon impact, a wispy red aura briefly envelops both the target and the wielder. Other Notes: A favored tool of dark mages and assassins, this dart symbolizes the parasitic nature of undeath. Its association with Szass Tam adds a layer of infamy, and wielding it may attract unwanted attention from those who oppose Thayan interests. Item Name: Dart of Purifying Acid (+4) Item Type: Dart Item Description: The Dart of Purifying Acid was conceived by Alustriel Silverhand, a chosen of Mystra, to cleanse the world of undead abominations and infernal entities. Enchanted with acid distilled from holy springs and imbued with radiant energy, this dart dissolves the corrupt essence of its targets, effectively purifying them. The acid serves a dual purpose: it inflicts physical harm and symbolically erodes the vile energies animating undead and fiends. Its mere presence offers a shield against evil, protecting the wielder from dark influences. STATISTICS: Damage: 1d3+4 (piercing damage) THAC0: +4 bonus Speed Factor: 0 Special Abilities: +4 to hit and damage against undead and demonic creatures On Hit: 20% chance to deal an extra 1d6 acid damage On Hit: 10% undead and demonic must save vs death at a -4 penalty or be utterly destroyed Equipped Abilities: Protection from Evil Usability: Usable by all classes that can use darts Usable by characters of all alignments Note: The dart returns to the wielder after every throw Art Direction: This dart gleams with a silvery sheen, its surface etched with flowing, celestial patterns. The tip holds a small reservoir of glowing green acid. When thrown, it leaves a trail of shimmering light, and the acid emits a soft hiss upon contact. Upgrade Path: To upgrade the Dart of Purifying Acid to a +5 enchantment, you must seek the legendary smith Cespenar in the Plane of Pocket. Combine the dart with: (Not sure if this type of thing is in scope for this live stream) Essence of a Fallen Planetar Vial of Molydeus Blood 5,000 gold pieces Upgraded Version: Dart of Purifying Acid (+5) Additional Properties: Damage: 1d3+5 (piercing damage) THAC0: +5 bonus On Hit: 30% chance to deal an extra 2d6 acid damage On Hit: 10% chance to Hold the enemy for 1 round (acid corrodes and immobilizes the target) Equipped Abilities: Protection from Evil and Negative Plane Protection and a +2 luck bonus is added to acid-causing spells Art Direction (Upgraded): The upgraded dart radiates a bright silver light, and the acid within glows intensely. The celestial patterns now include intricate runes symbolizing purity and protection. Other Notes: The upgraded dart represents the pinnacle of Alustriel's craftsmanship, embodying purity capable of standing against the deepest darkness. Item Name: Dart of the Severing Mist (+5) Item Type: Dart Item Description: An artifact of the necromancer Acererak, the Dart of the Severing Mist, is enveloped in a corrosive fog drawn from the Demiplane of Acid. This mist doesn't merely burn; it severs the bonds between body and soul. The dart's deadly mist can decapitate or dismember upon impact, explaining how such a small weapon can produce a Vorpal effect. The acidic mist gnaws at the target's body, slowing them as their muscles and sinews weaken under its relentless assault. The wielder gains the ability to mislead foes, shrouded by the same mist that harms their enemies and is protected by Ko'Zedaz's Caustic Shell, a spell that envelops them in an acidic barrier. STATISTICS: Damage: 1d3+5 (piercing damage) plus 2d4 acid damage THAC0: +5 bonus Speed Factor: 0 Special Abilities: On Hit: 20% chance to Slow the target for 2 rounds (Save vs death -4) On Hit: 10% chance of Vorpal effect (instant death by decapitation) (No Save) Equipped Abilities: May cast Mislead once per day Permanent effect of Ko'Zedaz's Caustic Shell (provides acid resistance and damages attackers) Usability: Usable by all classes that can use darts Not usable by Good-aligned characters Note: The dart returns to the wielder after every throw Art Direction: The dart is crafted from a dark, glossy metal that seems to emit swirling mist. The mist is tinged green and feels cold to the touch. When thrown, it leaves a trail of thick, lingering fog that briefly obscures vision. Other Notes: The Vorpal effect is rationalized by the mist's ability to dissolve flesh and bone rapidly. The slowing effect comes from the corrosive mist impairing bodily functions. Wielders should be wary, as the dart's power comes from dark sources tied to Acererak's nefarious deeds. Item Name: Dart of the Mad Whisperer (+4) Item Type: Dart Item Description: The Dart of the Mad Whisperer houses the fractured soul of Halius the Unhinged, a former priest of Cyric, the Mad God. In his obsession to please his deity, Halius performed a ritual to bind his essence to a weapon, hoping to achieve immortality. Instead, he trapped himself within the dart, his sanity eroding over time. The dart is unusually heavy, forged from a dense, otherworldly metal, explaining the significant crushing damage it inflicts upon impact. The weight and force of the dart can shatter bones and armor, far exceeding what one would expect from its size. Wielders can hear Halius's incessant whispers. Without sufficient wisdom, these whispers can confuse and overwhelm the mind. Only those of strong body and mind can safely wield the dart without succumbing to its madness. STATISTICS: Damage: 1d3+4 (piercing damage) plus 2d4 crushing damage THAC0: +4 bonus Speed Factor: 4 Special Abilities: On Hit: 10% chance to cause Confusion on the target for 3 rounds (no saving throw) Equipped Penalty (if Wisdom < 16): for the wielder, 50% chance upon equipping to be Confused for 3 rounds for the wielder, 20% chance per attack to be Confused for 1 round during combat Requirements: Strength: 16 or higher (due to its weight) Wisdom: 16 or higher to avoid confusion Usability: Usable by all classes that can use darts Usable by characters of all alignments Note: The dart returns to the wielder after every throw Art Direction: This dart is larger and heavier than normal, made from a dark, matte metal. Its surface is engraved with erratic, twisting symbols that seem to shift when not looked at directly. A faint murmur emanates from it, growing louder in silence. Other Notes: This is an intelligent weapon that speaks to the player. The crushing damage is justified by the dart's unnatural weight. The confusion effects on both wielder and target stem from the mad whispers of Halius's soul. The interactive dialogue with Halius provides a unique role-playing opportunity, adding depth to the wielder's journey. Edited October 25 by Marzx13 Quote
