Enemy simulacrums at full level bug

I can't figure what's causing this issue with enemy simulacrums in my modded BGT.

The simulacrums for the player are correctly level adjusted, yet somehow enemy simulacrums are created at the casters full level.

I've checked enemy scripts and they're casting the same spell as the player - it's not some modified version, and I've looked at the spell itself to make sure it's using image type (3) simulacrum. 

 

Now if you examine the IESDP entry for #236 you can see how the effect functions. It's hardcoded to apply #216 (level drain) using this formula: floor(ceil(average of LEVEL, LEVEL2, LEVEL3) * factor)

There's a footnote at the bottom which notes a bug present in the EE's. But I'm playing the originals.

 

I'd find it hard to believe a bug like this was present for years in the originals, yet no posts were made about it. SCS users would have noticed.

Any insight would be helpful

The weidu.log is likely not that helpful, as you would better make a --change-log from the file, which ever is the one the friendly ones and hostile ones use and find the variance between those.
Also, you do know that the SCS tends to make use of it's own .spl files, so you got to actually find a few things out for yourself, with a conductive^ reasoning.

Admittedly, I'm not sure what ASCENSION is doing to Simulacrum. I'm assuming it's a compatibility thing that isn't related to this issue.

I'm also aware of what D0QUESTPACK does. It's not related.

The structure of the spell itself looks fine to me and I don't understand how it would cause this discrepancy between enemy and player.

The major thing SCS does is make adjustments to SIMULACR.SPL so that the clone receives the proper AI script.

It might be that the enemy simulacra are level-drained, but that this just isn't doing what you expect it to. Party members and their clones get all sorts of things checked against the level-based tables, which are recalculated under level drain. Enemies generally don't. Enemy spellcaster memorization numbers have only a loose relationship with the tables of how many spells they should get. So if an enemy spellcaster creates a level-drained clone ... does that do anything to their spell memorization?

To get a good read on this, you'd probably have to closely examine a save, looking at the embedded CRE files for such a clone. Easier said than done, given the inability to save in combat; you'd probably need a map transition with an autosave to make it work.

Of course, now I need to find a solution. There are two possibilities I can think of:

- Within DW#IMAGE.BCS (the script that is given to the clone with SIMULACR.SPL), I'd make a block that casts a custom spell if the clone is of ENEMY alignment.

- This spell would have a number of ability headers, each with their minimum level set from 18 to say 31. 

- Within each ability I'd have to create a number of effects using opcode #172 (Remove Spell) listing out every spell that the NPC should not have if they were half their level. 

OR

- I learn how to do engine hacks and somehow implement the level based table recalculation through something like Tobex

- It's a shame @Insomniator has been MIA since SHS went down. I don't know anyone else still working on hacks for the originals that could get me started.

I have modified versions of Simulacrum which, instead of using level drain, simply limit the highest level spell the simulacrum can cast. For my mod this is instead of level drain; but you could also adapt the code to simulate level drain, by removing all spells normally unavailable to a caster at the level-drained level. My code is here if you want a bit of a shortcut. 

EDIT - though, if you are looking at oBG2, I’m not sure if this can be done without SPLPROT.2da…

EDIT 2 - oh yeah, I was thinking about checking the LEVEL stats via SPLPROT.2da, but maybe you could use the spell’s ability headers instead. One issue there, it would check caster level in the arcane caster class, whereas for the player the spell applies level drain differently depending on their average multi- or dual-class values. (You can see why I ripped that out completely and standardized the clone penalties.)
